What is it? WW2 item
My wife handed me this yesterday. States it was in a bundle of military surplus she bought back in the mid-80s. I have no idea what it might be. The can is about 2" in diameter, some kind of tin perhaps. Has Rev 55 stamped on the top. Inside, in descending order, is a black disc with a hole in it, then a cardboard type disc with a red ribbon holding it closed. Top of the disc is stamped 19. Juli 1943 and the bottom stamped Gev-01--54. Inside the disc are three cardboard discs (packing material) and four clear plastic discs of different thickness. None of the disc appear to be for vision correction. There is then a 2nd black disc with a hole in it. Finally, along the inside of the bottom of the tin can, are two metal pieces that look like they're meant to be handled. The plastic discs could not be retained in the clips. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672359571.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672359602.JPG

Just a guess but parts for early night vision or parts of a range finder?
