Question Need advise in buying a Wii from someone who has one

The family wants to get a Wii to have something to do indoors.
Seems like the Sports and Sports Resort are what works for us:
Tennis, Table Tennis, Golf, Bowling

We want to play each other at the same time.

Questions:
-Do we need a newer unit with more memory?
-Should we buy the Deluxe Accessory Bundle?
-There is an 8 in 1 kit and then a 15 in 1 kit - huh?
-What is the Motion Plus thing and is it that much better?
-I see a gun in the kits but do I need a different game to do target shooting or hunting?

Is there someone who who has this stuff that can save me half a day to figure out what I want/need?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you sure its a Wii you are looking for? Thats a 15yo system at this point which is several generations old as far as gaming technology is concerned.

You probably don’t even have to buy one. Someone in my neighborhood is giving one away on our buy nothing board at least once a month.

-You can just buy memory cards later if you need additional space. Most likely won't need it unless you are downloading lots of games.
-Deluxe Accessory Bundle makes your experience more immersive but not required for the games you want
-For the kits same answer for the deluxe accessory
-Most games don't need Motion Plus
-Yes, you will need different games with shooting

You will need additional Wii remotes. 1 for every player.

Thanks for the good points.
We are pretty sure we don't mind old tech. We are board game type folks. We are not looking for the super hi-tech but just want something fun that we can drag out a couple times a year. Low res is not a deal breaker as long as the motion isn't choppy or blurry. Sound like basic unit would fit our needs.

-What is the difference between the 8 in 1, 15 in 1, and Deluxe Accessory Bundle?
-Is it better to buy the Nintendo brand stuff or are aftermarket as good or better?
-Looks like if we buy one of the above, we'll have 2 remotes that we need. Yes?

Any other suggestions?

wii may be an old platform, but it's still a lot of fun.

Per my son:

If you're just playing wii Sports and wii Sports Resort, it depends on the version of the system. Nintendo wiimotes released after june 2009 have the wii motion plus built in but there is no visual difference. Wii sports only requires the "nunchuck" to play the boxing game, but wii sports resort requires both the nunchuck, and if you dont have a later controller, a wii motion plus. Both games can be played without either however there are just some minigames that cannot be played like boxing, archery, or cycling. The accessories like the gun or tennis racquet are not needed to play. Just like the steering wheel for mario kart (another of our favorite classic wii games playable for all ages). The game will tell you which accesories are needed if you do not have them plugged in.

Do not need the bigger memory unit.
Do not need Deluxe Acc Bundle, nor the 8:1 or 15:1. Do not need "gun".
Motion Plus: maybe, depending on which games you want to play. But not absolutely necessary.

Cool.

I went looking for a Wii at the big box store and they said they only sell the Switch.

Anyone have any last thought before I go hunt a Wii online?

Heck, the wii platform is so old, I don't think you can buy new ones anymore. I don't think they make new games for it anymore. Maybe you can find a used one for sale at GameStop? Otherwise, ebay/Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace?

My son says it was discontinued in 2013, and there was some 2017 mini-unit released.

There should be a used game store in your area they are everywhere. But buying from a private party will get you the best deals. I play wii alot but only single player games so i cant really answer your questions.

Thanks for all the input. I've decided to buy one that new so I have the best chance of not having a problem.

Bought the Wii with motion plus and set it up tonight.
Had a blast.

Need a 2nd controller and will be looking for shooter games. Don't want to blast aliens, zombies, or other people. More like arcade and target.

Anyone have Reload or Top Shot Arcade?

Funny. We have a Wii, bought brand new when they came out. I can remember my wife wanted it for the sports and exercise stuff and we got the steering wheel things for racing I think Mario Kart or something like that. Anyway, yeah, I think we used it a few months and then didn't touch it again. My son has it in his room now. He has a PS5 and we still have an old XBox 360, don't know why he wants the Wii, I guess he is collecting game systems. Lol.

Get a Switch. It's the "new" Wii. My kids love it. Has pretty much all the same games at Wii had, but also still supported w/ new stuff. We've had ours for a couple years, just played games w/ them on NYE all night.

That said we have had both a Wii and a WiiU and they have worked well.

Here's an important point: WE DON'T WANT the new games! We like the simplicity of the original games and don't want to fool with all the other stuff. Other than what we have gotten, I'll be surfing for the shooting games and a gun if I can't find one locally.

Also need a second Controller with motion plus.
