Absolute perfection
(Not for your viewing, Denis.)
Now, how about 26 minutes of absolute perfection...the awe of the announcers say it better than I could. Fedor Gorst playing 10 ball. Hard for me to realize the amount of concentration this takes. Combined with skill gained by countless hours of practice, of course. The match mentioned by Joe Rogan in his podcast with Fedor. (edit) The reason he doesn't alaways shoot the 10 ball is because his opponent is conceding the game at that point. The "perfection" is his cue ball control...all those "easy" shots didn't get that way by accident. <iframe width="676" height="380" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_guCgG5TtTg" title="ABSOLUTE PERFECTION | FEDOR GORST PERFECT SET vs OSCAR DOMINGUEZ | Brendan Crockett Memorial" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
It’s not just me…no one here seems interested in this stuff.

I thought you were saying this perfection

Nobody's perfect in pool...but Fedor, currently ranked # 2 or 3, depending on the ranking organization, is awfully close. Your loss if you don't watch a few racks. But thinking about it. most here wouldn't have a clue how he does these position shots. Those of us who play can know and appreciate what he's doing. Yep, I know what he does..but I sure can't do it, because I'm not Fedor Gorst.
Also, keep yer Glock...a made in Belgium Hi-power, please. |
In my best George Carlin paraphrase about watching golf. "Who in the Hell watches billiards? It's like watching flies fcku!"

Still pretty boring, watching men play with their balls. I will stick to racing. There are lots of rules to stop the rubbing is racing NASCAR mentality but it can be deadly if not penalized. |
Yeah, I've shot some pool back in the day, used to have a table in the basement/garage at a house we had some years ago, the kids and I would play from time to time. I can appreciate the smoothness of the shots in the video, that guy really knows how to set up for the next shot and makes it look easy.

Glock hate never ceases to amuse.
|
I think the hate part is motivated by self-assertion. "I wouldn't have a lowly 'tupperware gun'..." If it isn't obscenely expensive it can't be good... Now, I will grant you that there are very few folks who would call Glocks 'good looking' and they certainly aren't BBQ guns. I consider them to be excellent as a reliable tool with a reputation for ease of use and serviceability. Maybe you've heard the term
"FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION" ??? |
Did I say hate? Just prefer my Hi-power, thank you.
I also prefer my all wood cue over the new fangled carbon fiber shaft ones...and yes, that's a carbon fiber shaft being used in the opening video. Pretty obvious they can be made to function well. |
My grandfather made a living in the '20s as a pool hustler and craps player. He taught my cousins and I how to play 8 ball when I was around 12 years old. I never played much after college, but I always enjoyed it and can appreciate watching it. Maybe I'm the only other one on this board that appreciates pool, but I doubt it. You have my vote to carry on.

Thanks Steve...that really is the "problem" of pool not becoming a more appreciated sport...and at the higher levels, it is a sport...Gorst mentioned that in Rogan's webcast. That in Russia and Europe, cue games are indeed sport, while in the USA many consider it just a game.
Gorst is in the process of going for a green card...hopefully after that, USA citizenship. He was kind of stranded here after Putin invaded. He & his girlfriend Kristina..both non political, with the sport of professional pool being what they do. Sad that they can't play in many European tournaments because of politics. The USA tournament organizations are more open to them. |
