Hagler/Hearns
A nearby MMA fight thread reminds me of this video, which I have watched a number of times. It never fails to entertain me. For those who have not seen it.....enjoy!:

Saw it on closed circuit when it happened, and have watched the video many times. Agree 100% Didn't last long, but a ton of action in a short time. Watching it the first time, couldn't hear the announcers...audience screaming from the opening bell.

By mutual agreement, the fighters decided to ensure this fight could not possibly go 12 rounds.

Greatest first round ever. A couple of real men going toe-to-toe. None of that dancing around the ring schit you see now, too often. I love them both but Hearns has always been one of my favorite fighters ever...anyone other than Hagler would have been knocked the fk out in that round. Can you imagine any MMA fighter taking those shots?

Certainly one of the greatest rounds ever. I miss that era of boxing - so many good fighters in multiple divisions. Some good fighters now but far fewer and hard to find boxing coverage.

I stopped closely following the sport after the era of Ali though I did watch guys like Sugar Ray, Hearns,Hagler,Lewis and of course Big George.
Some of you will recognize the name Lou Duva. Well, he was a member of the same Veterans club as my Dad and I took a few lessons from him. Then he got famous.

Just such a great era of sports entertainment. True 'events' with months-long build-up to a single fight. Not saying the guys today aren't talented, etc. but it's all so diluted now. Today? a fight is given about 30-seconds to produce entertainment or you just bail out and switch to one of 300 other sports events going at the same time.

Tommy Hearns had the longest arms in boxing. I'm sure.
I loved that era also, Hearns, Hagler, Duran and Sugar Ray |

My buddy and I discuss this all the time (best boxing matches) I really liked Arguello/Pryor, but we both agree Gatti/Ward is the best series ever seen.
Enjoy: https://youtu.be/hYkt9mdE5KQ

Ya'll are tuggin' at my heart strings.
Watched most of those fights live at the time. LOVED boxing at that time. Truly artists in the ring with thunderous punches. The action was bonkers.

Perhaps share the short version with us, George.
I knew a guy who fought Arguello and lost. He was a three times national golden gloves champion. Honestly, I think Arguello had longer arms than Hearns but perhaps not. Hears was bigger.

Was working in Detroit in late 78. Decided to see Hearings fight at the Olympia. Glad I got a beer before the fight started. It was over by KO in 69 seconds. Guy could punch.
