GF, who was a nurse, said it has to be hot soapy water to lift the germs off (or kill them with hand sanitiser), and a second of water under a tap and wiping my hands doesn't clean them. Just an odd habit.

You failed your oath, Glen. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed.

I’m not over the top, but like to avoid germs if I can. Being in construction, we share tools and material all the time. I clean up when I can. I’ll shake hands but wash or hand sanitizer asap.

When working on the car, I eat sandwiches or pizza and don’t wash my hands. Go figure.

Do you sing "Happy Birthday" also so that you're washing for the recommended duration? :)

I have never washed my hands much or ever used hand sanitizer. I am rarely sick and see a doctor about every 10 years or so (except for my 5-year colonoscopy now). I broke a tooth and went to the dentist the other day and they were amazed I didn't take any medicines (like all old guys apparently do) and had perfect BP/heart rate. I guess if you grow up in an unsanitary situation, germs just don't have a chance afterwards.

I don't wash my hands in a public restroom after peeing. My junk is cleaner than that faucet handle.

Many restrooms now have that little thing at the bottom so you can open it with you foot.

When I think about ALL of the stupid sh^t we did with M80's I realize how lucky I am to still have both of my hands...

Today I got some gas and bought a couple of drinks at the Circle K. I held the two drinks so the bar code was facing the cashier. I asked her to use the small handheld reader and she said she couldn’t. I said the reason I’m doing this is because of germs, Covid, etc.

She said people touched the drink before it got in the cooler. 🙄 True, but she could’ve potentially rang up hundreds of transactions which the buyers also touched before she got to mine

I’ll take my chances with a couple of people touching the drinks in the cooler versus the cashier ringing up hundreds of people and both touching the drinks.

She then picked up one of the drinks by the top, where the mouth goes and rang it up.

I told her I was never coming back to that store again. I should’ve just walked out, like I did one other time.

So, is it just me?

No. People are nasty.

I go through paper towels at home like crazy. I'm always walking around with a couple bunched up in my hand. Makes my wife nits because they are everywhere.

I try to touch as few things as possible when out in the wild.

I make judicious use of sanitizing stations when they are available.

Or Costco, I'll hit the head before leaving.

At restaurants I will wash my hands before eating. Actually in public if I have to pee, I wash my hands before I touch my junk then again afterwards.

I'm not a germaphobe, I don't like my hands to feel dirty and people are disgusting filthy pigs.

I would like to give you a big hug, pat you in the back, and shake your hand!

I like to shake hands with the disgusting filthy pigs.
It helps to build up my germ resistance.

911boost 01-04-2023 11:23 AM

Holy Hell, I would not have asked her that.

Your body has an immune system.

If you know you are going to be like that, clean it with a wipe or something.

Seems a bit OCD to me, but to each their own.

My sister is very similar, bathed her kids practically in sanitizer and could never figure out why they were sick constantly.

I haven't heard of that. But good idea!

I do a one second wash under the tap then wipe my hands on my trousers to dry them. If you are going to wash your hands every 10 minutes (or thereabouts) you have to be quick LOL

A little bit of "Hollywood Insider Info".

Howie Mandel is a big germaphobe, I don't know if he's still as big a PITA as before. Jeff Altman was another one, what's with the comedians?

And Billy Bob Thornton was afraid of antiques and things that were "orange". Working on "The Man Who Wasn't There" which was a period pic (1930's) we had to manufacture any props that he would handle, no buying at Antique Shops or off of Ebay.

How many people were cured of biting their finger nails because of COVID?

She treated you in exactly the same manner in which she treats every other customer. The fact that her doing so upset you in some way is a very strong indication that yes, it is you. Unfortunately, not just you. There are far too many out there just like you.

The fact that you have special requirements that you expect everyone else to follow is your problem, not their problem. You cannot expect others to accommodate you, to treat you differently than they treat everyone else. Those expectations are both unrealistic and extremely selfish.

If you are that level of germaphobe, it's up to you to glove up, carry alcohol wipes, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, wear a mask, and whatever else it takes to make you feel "safe". It's absolutely fine if you want to be this careful, but you need to understand that you cannot push this off on others and expect them to treat you differently than they treat others.

You owe that young lady an apology.

That's one habit that I never got started in.
I have other ones though.

Yes, it’s just you. The $8/hour employee behind the counter is only doing her job. At least you weren’t ingested into an aircraft engine!

I stopped at DQ once for a french vanilla moo-latte....which are excellent.

The gal fixing my drink was having trouble with the frozen latte dispenser. It was plugged up and she proceeded to stick her little finger up the metal valve to unplug it.

She had no plastic gloves on and handed me the drink and said 'Thank You'

She was very good looking and with tats, so I said nothing. I did not drink it.
