If you're an eclipse fan - I just read about this total eclipse that will be about double the duration of the 2017 eclipse that was so popular over the US.

The next total solar eclipse to visit North America will be April 8, 2024. The duration of totality will be up to 4 minutes and 27 seconds, almost double that of The Great American Eclipse of August 21, 2017. The 2017 total solar eclipse was witnessed by about 20 million people from Oregon to South Carolina, and the upcoming 2024 Great American Eclipse is sure to be witnessed by many millions more.

I really enjoyed the 2017 eclipse in Nebraska. Definitely see the next one in the DFW area. The NE event was in the country and watched the livestock reactions. Maybe the human reactions in dfw would be more entertaining but I doubt it. It`s a cool event for sure!

I saw the total eclipse in Oregon in 2017. I think it's an event of a lifetime and would highly recommend it. Things darken and the animals start making strange noises. Then it gets darker yet and you can look right at the sun if it's a total eclipse. I tried taking a picture with my phone, but it was terrible. It looks just like this. It's eerie. Don't settle for a partial eclipse- it's not nearly as good.

Heart problems and long Covid. Hopefully, it is long Covid causing my memory problems, or it could be early onset dementia. Had a stroke 20 years ago, and a bunch of concussions in the past few years. Plus a lot of other factors.

The 2017 eclipse was total right over my house. While not the "spiritual" experience that some speak of, it was very cool.

I live not too far outside of totality. I'd love to be able to just hang at the casa, but since it's so close, depending upon the weather, I'll probably make a drive to whatever the closest, best spot is for totality.

I've known about this since 2017 and I've been waiting.

I have seen several partial eclipses, and just one total. It is kinda cool, but not anything magical or spiritual at all for me. Just the shadow of the moon moving across the earth.

The coolest part of the last partial eclipse was the little crescent shapes in the shadows of the leaves in trees.

I took this photo of the sidewalk and the shadows were cool.

If the forecast looks good I may load up my solar equipment and take a road trip. Maybe get a couple of pix.

I'm the OP. In 2017, we did a short road trip from metro ATL up to Elgin SC. My younger sister and husband live there - and it was in the dead center of the 2017 eclipse. It's a small town and held a viewing in the town park which ended up being rather crowded. We are already working on plans for a Dallas/Austin TX trip for 2024. We lived in metro Dallas for 7 years about 30 years ago.

We were in the path of the 2017 eclipse. We had bird feeders out, and the birds all left the feeders. It got eerily quiet, and when the sun reappeared it took the birds a few minutes to come back and start chattering again.
I don't want to say an eclipse has any cosmic meaning, but at the time of the eclipse I was living in my "forever home" and had no intention of ever leaving. Six months later I was living in a different house 60 miles away - and it was a very good thing.

It prob won't be seen here.

You've got 15 months to get that figured out and fixed.

I think I spent 2 days in Grand Rapids nearly 20 years ago. I have no idea what part of the year it was (maybe Apr-Jun somewhere), but I think it was cloudy both days.

Start looking for a place to stay right NOW. Shoulda make plans a year ago.

The 2017 eclipse caught a bunch of people off guard (ie. B&B places unaware of the levels of interest). AirBNB places outside of Austin are sold out, and went for 3-4 times the normal rate. This eclipse is going to be a money grab for lots of people.

I've made plans to be just north of Dallas, in return for some lodging and such I'm probably going to be the resident Astronomer for the small town, and will be responsible for setting up some telescopes, maybe a star party the night before, and maybe a talk or two.


Some of y'all are broken souls, if a total eclipse wasn't an amazing experience for you. This will be my third totality, I hope for 3 more. I've also been in the path of the 1994 95% annular eclipse, the ring of fire is almost as cool as totality.

Man you weren't kidding. I'm looking now and it ain't looking good.
