subchondral cyst - lateral femoral condyle
Anyone have any experience treating a subchondral cyst at the femur?
My doc has recommended PT and ibuprofin; I've done some research on Dr. Google, and I'd also like to hear from any of you guys that might have any advice. I first noticed an issue after some winter cycling; I was doing focused hill work with a shoe / cleat combination that might have been out of adjustment or was no longer compatible. Is there a way to avoid 'total rest' - ie no hiking, long walks or cycling, or am I destined for PT only to get alleviate this joint pain?

A subchondral cyst is usually a sign of the beginnings of arthritis.

Ain't aging great? Lemme warn you...it doesn't get better. More and more time gets spent with medical professionals as the years roll by.

Right? "When I'm 64" is taking on a whole new meaning.
I've got the arthritis gene for sure, my left hip replacement is testament to that. But this knee pain was worrisome; pain in the knee will travel from the toes to the groin, so I wasn't sure if I had a knee injury, or my right hip is now a candidate for a titanium upgrade, or, worse, did I have a blood clot? (no bulging, but a friend of mine told me that a blood clot in the leg could be fatal. Who knew?) So, X rays showed a small cyst in the knee, a small amount of arthritis in the hip (Yay! Not yet, Captain Chrome!) and no blood clot. Now that I have the issue narrowed down to specifics I can hopefully treat the problem and return to hiking and cycling without waking up in the middle of the night crying for my mom because of the pain inflicted that day while I was trying to stay healthy.
