I'm watching on ESPN. I saw the hit and it didn't look to be that hard but high chest. So I'm thinking maybe pulmonary shock?

He got up and went out on his feet. Seems like fatal arrhythmia would explain that and the timing. If so, I’m sure the AED was applied as soon as there was no pulse.

I was thinking commotio cordis at first. I played lacrosse in college. A few years after I graduated, a player on my collegiate team was struck in the chest by a shot. He passed away. That's usually instantaneous to the trauma. If not that, then maybe cardiac tamponade or some sort of other major blood vessel injury?

Thoughts with this young man and his family.

Commotio cordis is like getting shot in a bullet proof vest so that seems reasonable. I thought pulmonary disruption that could lead to cardiac arrest. Whatever, I sure hope that the kid makes a full recovery.
