I call my daughter my sister's name

I'll be talking casually and address my daughter as Amy but she's April. I've done this for 30 years, every now and then.

Is this abby..... normal?

Yes :)

Noah930 01-14-2023 11:06 AM

I mix up my sister's and daughter's names, too.

I don't know if that's normal or a sign of some sort of pathology, but I do it, also.

Classic. This belongs in the movie clip thread.

Absolutely normal. We have kids who now have kids of their own, so we have grandsons. And up until this summer, we had a dog that we'd had for 17 years. At time, any name may come out of our mouths when talking to someone, LOL. And if you're trying to tell one of the grandkids to do something and they aren't listening that only increases the odds.

My Mom would get upset when my sister Terri and I would misbehave and she'd yell "Tonnie and Derri!"

And we'd laugh, and get in more trouble because we laughed.

Good times.

My Wife calls out some random guy's name during sex. She can remember stuff I did 10 years ago when we argue so I don't think it's a sign of dementia or anything, just a normal occurrence ..... :D

I have three daughters... I say all three names when calling one of them.

Bob Kontak 01-14-2023 12:15 PM

So I text a pic of the above first post to the family group phone text looking for a laugh. My other sister, Ruthann, is upset that I never called my daughter her name.

My brother texts that he called his seven year live in girlfriend - the one who owns the house - The L word (Linda, his ex). My 86 year old Dad asks "What is the L word?"

I worked with a guy that was two years older than me and had a son named Scott.

More often than not...he would call me Scott at work.

That's what I'm talking about. Everyday mundane conversation. It just comes out wrong. No ill will. Just a little lazy with maybe a wee touch of clutch slipping.

Yes.

Mom mother calls me by my brother’s name. I do the same to my son.

My uncle used to run through all the names of his nephews before landing on mine.

I still distinctly remember being in a disagreement with someone and using one of my brother's names.

That was probably ten years ago.

My grandmother would call myself or one of my cousins names, and sometimes rattle off all of them until she got to my name. She did that to all the grand-kids.

RNajarian 01-14-2023 01:28 PM

Pffft. My mom used to accidentally call me by the dog’s name.

He wasn’t too happy about that.

flatbutt 01-14-2023 04:30 PM

My dad numbered us. 1, 2 and 3.

WPOZZZ 01-14-2023 04:47 PM

I called my ex my dog's name.

unclebilly 01-14-2023 05:27 PM

Just don’t call your wife her mother’s name… instant fight.

Ask me how I know…

varmint 01-14-2023 05:59 PM

You haven’t had fun til you’ve called your wife by an ex’s name.

Arizona_928 01-14-2023 06:39 PM

Calling your wife your girlfriend's name is worse.
