Oil in muffler

I bought an 08 BWM 535i twin turbo with bad turbos. Got it fixed but I forgot about it dumping oil in exhaust. After two weeks driving it’s still bad. Even drilled two holes in muffler and a good bit has come out. Don’t want to pull exhaust yet. Was thinking of poring something like diesel fuel in the muffler and letting it drain from the holes I drilled. I also could change my parts cleaner solvent and pour the old stuff in it. It’s PFC 1000. Have to wash the back of the car every few days from all the oil. It does not smoke too bad unless I floor it. But I have had enough of this.

If it's that bad, I would replace the mufflers. It doesn't take much liquid to generate a whole lot of smoke......

I would think the cat/s are also soaked . Any good mountain roads near you ? Sounds like you really need to get the exhaust hot .

I suspect, if you're not going to replace the mufflers, that a fair amount of patience is in order.

for 2 stroke golf carts the oil soaked mufflers get BAR-B-Qed

gas or a camp fire charcoal is not much good as they need both heat and flames

Cats get really hot. Unless it's throwing codes, wouldn't they have been able to burn it off?

Under normal circumstances yes but he sounds like he's got the Exxon Valdez inside the exhaust . My point is the exhaust will need MANY heat cycles to burn off the refinery he apparently has in his mufflers .

If they burned the oil off, how can the oil be in the mufflers?

it probably doesnt have cats. the 3/535is were all so easy to tune, and fastest way is to just cat delete them.

Cats don't come up to temp immediately but oil starts to flow with pressure.

I remember the first time I overfilled my first 911 SC with at first oil change. It was a mosquito fog machine extraordinaire. I took the muffler off and washed it with Dawn soap and gas to get all the oil out. I still had to burn off the residual but it was much quicker.

Oil in the muffler? Isn't that to lubricate the muffler bearings?

I can't imagine taking a muffler off just to get rid of oil. All of that grinding off of rusted nuts and bolts, new gaskets. Things not fitting like they used to.

Smoke coming out of the muffler is the persons behind problem, not mine.

too much smoke might attract the popo, thinking it failed smog or tech inspection, or if it is really bad because it can be considered a hazard

No cats
Had some diesel so I poured that in there.
Go it clear coming out the holes in muffler.
Smoking more what little I drove it.
Oil cooler started leaking so I have to focus on that for now.

Let me tell ya. This is a great driving and fast car. Heavy so handling is not nearly as good as my e46

Good question.

If cats are removed as mentioned it makes sense. If not then I bet cats should be removed as they are probably coked up inside.

I see PID's (operating parameters) with slightly better than basic OBD monitors that indicate cat temps of 1,400F when operating properly. Dump a consistent spray/mist/droplets of oil into them and they will be rendered ineffective and the coked oil on the catalyst matrix would increase back pressure as well as allow oil to pass through given the lower temp of the cats.

Now I just said that as opposed to doing a multi-car test where I split cats apart after oil soaking.

There was a LOT of oil coming out of the turbos when I bought it. It was like the bearings were totally gone.

After another dose of diesel it’s back to smoking like it was. Still a lot.
Thing that is so bad it comes inside the car.
If that’s the case what stops regular exhaust fumes from getting in.

Gonna pull it off today or tomorrow and soak it in gas then wash it out.
