Travertine floor
 

We had travertine put down in our kitchen when we redid it. I remember the installer saying to coat it with something (sealer?) every once in a while. Any suggestions what to use? Thanks.

That said you will have to buff it off tile by tile before moving on. It will last a very long time.

Maybe grout release?

Lately I have used Stonetech Bulletproof sealer. If you put water on the tile does it bead off or sink into the stone? Nice looking tile.

Water doesn’t seem to sink into it but it just looks like it needs something to freshen it up. And I remember the installer saying you need to apply something to it every so often, just not sure what it was.

511 works very well!

Travertine is a soft stone. The natural color/texture is beautiful, but to keep it that way takes maintenance.

You have a couple options. Get it professionally sealed ( it's kinda like varnish ) and it'll look great a long time.

Or, leave it natural and use 511.

Biggest thing is keep it clean. Small amounts of dust or debris easily grinds away the beauty.

Did he seal it after he installed? Any chance you can call and ask him what he used? A sealer enhancer will change the look, give it more depth, sort of an oiled or wet look, but best tried first on an extra piece of tile.

I don’t think the installer put anything on it and it was a subcontractor several years ago. I’ll probably try that 511 stuff (in a corner of the laundry room first) and see how that looks. Thanks for the input guys.—Dave

When you apply the 511 it needs to be buffed before it starts to dry otherwise it will leave a haze on the surface. If it does leave a haze then apply a bit more using a rag and buff clean. It's an excellent sealant for stone products. If you want to deepen the colors of your floor there are enhancing sealers for that as already mentioned. Yes good idea to start in the corner of someplace discrete.
