Got myself a Gee-tar

I'm a plinker. Never took any lessons, don't read music, play strictly for pleasure. I have been playing on an older Yamaha for years, and decided it was time to treat myself to something a bit nicer. Picked up this Martin D12E. I am a bit floored at how much better it is. My Yamaha feels like a battle axe, this thing is a fine sword. The electronics are fantastic, love the built in tuner. I got it a week ago, and I am beyond thrilled.

That's awesome!

I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, "No" was all he said

The one object I will grab if my house is on fire? My 1941 Epiphone Zenith. Had it since I was 15.

I get it. Rock on.

I like guitars and fully endorse Hard Drive’s purchase. Boredom drove me to click on Paul’s link and I’ll admit I enjoyed the tune :-).

Hard Drive,
The first line of your post described me to a T until my 50s. Then I got together with some friends who were "playing out" and I've been gigging for the last 16 years, mostly solo for the last 10.
Regarding your old Yamaha, set up of an acoustic guitar is so subjective. Even something like the thickness of the neck can make a huge difference to a player. Glad you found a guitar you like to play more. That Martin looks sweet.
My musical heart belongs to my old Yamaha FG 580. I bought it 30 years ago from an old guy who had it for twenty years. He played at dances and it was played hard. It was a mess when I got it, but with some TLC it proved it was a better guitar than I was a player.

Play on!

Best

Very nice guitar! Kind of a poor man's D18. Those have the 1 3/4" nut which I find works best for my fat meat hooks.

I had been using D'Addario Custom Lights on my guitars and recently switched to Martin Retros. They do seem to sound a bit "brighter".

I got to see Robbie, Levon and Richard in Somers Point in 1966. They were great then playing as Levon and the Hawks and only got better as the Band.

Nice Axe! I sold a bunch of firearms and started buying Gibson Jumbos. My black J200, the natural J200 and a J150. If the house were burning, I would run back for the J150. It just has a magical sound.

Nice Guitar! Nice that the electrics are well hidden also…mounted so that the acoustics remain unmolested? Just curious…as I often think of adding some electrification to my Eastman (E20-D) acoustic.

I have a Martin also…a D12-20 (twelve string) that I purchased new back in 1972, which sounds wonderful, but is getting difficult to play as the neck is bending and it has a few cracks (its been around). As this guitar has no adjustable truss-rod, the neck will stay bent until I can get it fixed. Plays great with a slide - but I guess its time that I contact Martin, as I understand that they might just fix my guitar for free under their amazing warranty program.

At any rate…good for you, and enjoy your new Martin!

BTW, David, I have started to play my son Jack's old Bass...I will NOT name either the bass or the amp so I don't get picked on.

Lot's of on line lessons I am trying to follow.

I suck at it but it makes me smile.

I didn’t know Jack played bass. It’s not the bass, it’s who is playing that makes the difference. At this point you admit you suck. But if you buy a $2000 bass guess what????

You will still suck. Just made a bass for Art, could you be next??

That is so true. I realized decades ago i would never be better than my three old guitars. I can go into a music store and be perfectly happy to leave all those shiny new instruments right where they are.
I have gotten better over 50 years, good enough that I have fun at a gig. But a $2k guitar isn't gonna do me any good.
I can live with that.
Best

Very nice Martin. Congrats !!!

I’m mostly an electric player but I have a Santa Cruz 12-D for bluegrass and last month picked up a Gibson L-00 and I’m loving it for finger style blues. I was craving a small body with a responsive top that responds well to a light touch and it does just that and it doesn’t kill my shoulder sitting all day on the couch playing

Have fun with it. Don’t let her dry out in this winter weather
