Morton’s Neuroma

Anyone have to deal with this? Considering the surgery but reading mixed reviews of the outcome. Uncomfortable and mildly painful but don’t want to make it worse. Any personal experience among the brain trust?

I have 1 in each foot. I worked on an orthopedic floor with a surgeon who volunteered to "fix me up". I declined. I have been wearing Hoka shoes for work and running and it tends to relieve some of my symptoms. The Hokas have a wide toe box and have lower heels than toes so the pressure is more on the heel than toes. As a nurse, who is on my feet a lot, it is worth the cost to me.

Unfortunately I also have one in each foot. I occasionally need to wear “business” clothes (suit) so can’t wear my one pair of Skechers that don’t hurt. I’ll check out Hoka’s to see what they have.

If anyone has had the surgery (cut out the affected nerve leaving a couple of numb toes), would be interested in your experience.

I cured mine by rolling my foot over a rolling pin twice a day for a couple of weeks. Worked like a charm.

Wait…what??? You rolled the ball of your foot over a rolling pin and this helped? Does that break up the neuroma or something?

(just ordered a pair of Hoka’s to try)…

I had one in my wrist years ago. I had a buddy tell me that he cured his with a good whack with a heavy book. So, I let him give it a shot. Three actually. Worked like a charm.

I’ve had one in my left foot for over 20 years. I wear an orthotic in all of my shoes. I’m not going to have surgery. I avoid going shoeless on hard surfaces. Birkenstocks and Hokas feel the best for me. I’ve also had several cortisone injections and those help reduce swelling and ease pain for a little while.

Now that I think of it, the rolling pin was for plantar facsiitas. I'm getting so old I can't keep my ailments straight. I did have a neuroma, and I just made sure to wear wide shoes, and don't walk bare foot too much. Eventually, after a few years, it just went away. If I wear narrow shoes I feel like it would come back.

I strongly suspect you had a ganglion cyst, not a neuroma.
You can "cure" a ganglion cyst with a heavy book- classically they used a bible.
You cannot cure a neuroma with a book.
One can get a neuroma almost anywhere, by definition a Morton's neuroma is in the foot

I have a neuroma on my left foot.
I have controlled the symptoms with orthotics and wearing wider well cushioned shoes.
For many people the symptoms come and go.
Good luck

I had it on my left foot last year. Walking barefoot was painful but with shoes, it was bearable. It lasted about 6 months but went away on its own.

I strongly suspect that you are correct. I wrote my post w/out checking definitions. Bad Flatty!

Glad I didn’t smack my foot with a large book.

Yup, in my left foot. See this thread.

https://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1044517-bottom-foot-pain.html

I saw a doc, had 2 corizone shots and it felt great for months. He offered surgery, I also declined. That would be last resort.

A few months ago, it started kinda sorta tingling slightly-ish.

Feels decent now, but i plan on much more hiking this year. Researching shoes.
