Anyone own a Sur Ron or Talaria

Ive got "extra" motorcycles and have been thinking about selling my Honda 250 CRFL and using it to fund a Sur Ron for fun in the forest trails around here.

Curious if anyone owns one. Was it worth it?

What do you like/hate about it?

stevej37 01-29-2023 11:25 AM

Not sure what a Sur Ron is?....any pics of that and maybe your 250?

Sooner or later 01-29-2023 11:31 AM

I think they are both e bikes

stevej37 01-29-2023 11:38 AM

^^^ lol...I'm wondering if the Honda is the same as Itchyboots rides?

cstreit 01-29-2023 11:44 AM

Yeah - Its the same bike that ItchyBoots started out on.

A Sur-Ron is a 120# electric dirt bike/mtb hybrid

Both look great.
I would have a hard time giving up the Honda for an e-bike....but then again, I've never rode an e-mtb. I can see that the weight difference is huge...which would really help.

There’s some cool YouTube videos of guys modifying these Sur Ron’s heavily and reprogramming them. They look pretty fun they way they do it.

Price is equivalent and I already have a good thumper (KTM 690 Enduro R) bike and pickup up an KTM 890 adventure bike this spring - plus the Norton street bike. Just trying to diversify. :D

I just don't need or ride it any more - but I could use the ebike. ;)

^^^ A very nice arsenal.:D

Honda's have always been my favs....since owning a step-thru 90 at 14 years old to 175cc scramblers, 350's, 750-4, and 900 hi-low.....I'm starting to miss the Honda riding.

We rode the heck out of Honda 250's in Laos that had well over 80k kilometers on the odometer. THey were still strong.

^^^
That would be the one that I would want for today.

Sur Rons are quite popular around here.

And another good thing about them is you can do some discrete riding around places that you shouldn't really be - just an electric bicycle eh ;)

Thats exactly my thinking. I'm sure its not totally legal in some areas, but not aggregiously illegal as well. (like work-day afternoons)

Funny I was just looking at a Sur Ron at the dealer a couple of days ago.

I think you'll love the 890. 5 of us did 10 days in Colorado on our 790/890s, great bikes. 2 of the guys sold their 690Rs after getting the 890 and kept their smaller bikes for serious woods riding.

6 of us did Denver to Phoenix on the BDR on 890’s, that’s what sold me. First time I could,do 200 miles on a bike and still walk. This is not from that trip, but same dudes.

The Sur Ron's have made a big splash with the dirtbike crowd. Only seen a few in the wild. I did just see a video this am of one climbing approximately 45 degree vertical. VERY impressive riding.

I absolutely think E-dirtbikes are the future. I have an electric road bike, and it is a game changer. Off road would only be better.

A Sur Ron is on my longer term "to buy" list... I rode one around the paddock at a track event last year and it was fun. I think they look like a riot - a lot of fun to be had. You'd definitely need to treat it like a "real" motorcycle in terms of safety and respect etc... it has enough power and goes fast enough to put you in a world of hurt if you come off it unintentionally!
