British Seagull Restoration - Parts - Manuals

Hi!

I just picked up a 1970 Forty Plus (L) Seagull which I am going to restore in memory of a dear friend (and return to his family).

Does anyone have a parts manual, owners manual or shop manual?

I appreciate your feedback. i plan to post progress pics!

good luck

had too many miles in the ditch with no wind too much tide
and too much oil smoke at 1 to 10

but they do not die just get hard to start and smoke more

propane torch is a major seagull tool
both to unFOUL the plug and a quick start aid
hot plug trick remember 1 to 10 the plug is always foul
and to heat bend the drive spring to reuse a busted one

if it ain't witworth or odd sized it likely will break if looked at hard

real advice sell it as a wall mount decoration
and skip the COPD from the oil
and buy a jap 4 stroke

still have one like that but no sparks and short shaft

if a person needs a seagull they best have 2

as far as I know they died years ago
parts are few and high priced now

Oh it’s an outboard. I was wondering.
Not enough to google it, but just a little.

Step one is converting to 25:1 with a different needle.

Torch; check
Kroll; checked
Wit worth tools: check

Fixing it as a present for a friend for his vintage dingy

they were made to power landing barges [the big ones silver century ]
intent was for one use and abandon on the beach during war

then we gave them higgins boats with 6-71 power

The landing craft, vehicle, personnel or Higgins boat was a landing craft used extensively by the Allied forces in amphibious landings in World War II.

so no idea what they really used seagulls for during the war after higgins

the other no tool quick fix is water flow

they ran the water inline inside the exhaust pipe
so salt builds up and blocks flow of water from heat

a 1/4'' water hose adapter held up to the water exit hole to reverse flush
will dissolve the salt a bit of pipe nipple in the hole helps reduce the spray/splash

THANKS

I already built a replacement water line for it! Brass plumbing fitting and SS tube. Will make a flush adapter as you suggest. The water jacket had quite a bit of rust.

Bad part for now is that the piston is seized. Whole thing it drenched with Kroil.... waiting for it to do its thing.

BTW, this one is a Forty Plus Mark II

I have my Dad's old Seagull in excellent condition. I believe it's 1-1/2 Hp., direct drive forward. I haven't run it in years but I used to love taking it fishing on a canoe or Jon boat.

If you used the correct procedure, it would fire up on the second pull and launch you along at about half throttle. Idle didn't really go low enough, but I learned the concept of four stroking a two stroke.

Sadly, I don't currently have a small enough boat to use it.
