Icon Of The Seas

How large can these things get?
This one is a whole step up from the last ones.

And you only need to share it with 5000 other people...or more.

^^^7600 passengers at max capacity....more than the city I live in.

It's not for me...but I am amazed at the size of these ships.

They advertise these trips as though all you need to do is walk up to the attraction and have some fun.

We went to Disneyworld one Christmas and I was in the Magic Kingdom when it reached maximum capacity and they couldn't let anyone else in the park!!! I don't do big crowds these days so, no thanks, I'll pass.

^^^ Yes...no mention of the charges for any entertainment, drinks, or tips.
The initial cost of the cruise can easily double.

Thinking of the Titanic, are there really enough lifeboats for maximum capacity? Seems like you’d have to have enough lifeboats hanging off the outside of the ship, you couldn’t see the water.

I found this.

"Icon of the Seas is five times larger than the Titanic, with an internal volume of 250,800 GT compared to 46,328 GT. With a length of 1,198 feet, Icon of the Seas is around 35% longer than Titanic. Icon of the Seas can accommodate 9,950 people (of which 7,600 are guests and 2,350 are crew)."

I've never been on a cruise, and I've never had the desire.

I have heard that an Alaskan cruise where you can go see glaciers, whales, etc... is pretty cool. I would be willing to try a cruise to go see the fjords and aurora borealis, and I might be willing to do one of those European river cruises. I think there may be "cruises" where you can go to Antarctica. I'd be game for that.

But there'd have to be some pretty special possible sights/locations for me to go.

I have no interest in going on one of the tropical cruises out of south Florida, Galveston, Mexico, etc.... Packed on a boat full of "entertainment," food, drinks, gambling, and a few thousand folks doesn't sound like anything other than torture. I get that some folks enjoy that sort of thing, and that's fine. Different strokes.

I wonder how Greta feels about this behemoth?

I was at Ft Lauderdale/Port Everglades a few years back when they were re-loading the 'Oasis of the Seas' for it's next cruise.
They had a 4 story crane that lifted semi-trucks up to unload for the next cruise. The semi-trucks looked like toys compared to the ship.

Even with the new locks at Panama....I wonder if these new cruise ships can fit through?

I have been on a few about half that size and that was my limit. I do like the small "boutique" cruise lines. Small ships that get into small ports where the humongous tubby "tankers" can't go.

^^^ A gal I worked with went on a Norwegian Cruise a few years back.
From what she told me about the food and activities...I would do one of those.

I may try one of the long boat river cruises.
