Our harbour just starting to freeze over today

We're having quite a mild winter, so far,

And most people in Maritime Canada have one or two or even three of these attached to their house. Heat pump mania. We all have 'em.

Wow, that does seem like late freezing. I would have thought it would have been frozen at least a month ago.

Interesting, heat pumps up there seem inadequate. Do most folks have something else, like gas/oil?

Oil and electric panels, but oil is fast being fazed out up here.

I have oil and cast iron rads BTW this is very late for the harbour be just freezing now. Usually week before xmas it's solid ice.

Dennis, I'll bet the harbor is frozen over now!
The river finally froze over a few days ago.
On the 30th of January I took a picture of some flower shoots poking up by the walk.
This morning it was-24 C for a while.
F'ing groundhog!

Best

You've got that right! If you stand still you don't generate enough heat to stay warm.
On the other hand, we don't worry about scorpions, poisonous snakes or spiders.
Or tornadoes, come to think of it.
Heck, it's already warming up. Tomorrow we're supposed to be back to the melting point.

My pond virtually flash froze Thurs/Fri. It had been frozen for the New Year then the weather got all crazy and daffodils started poking their noses up.

The temp here jus vanished Thurs nite bouncing around near zero. Today there was 2 inches of ice on the pond. Currently 15 F and rising.
