The original music is so much better than the remix versions.

“It’s all pose, it’s all f*cking posing. It’s nothing to do with music. He knows it too. I can’t think of anything else he’s done that would make my hair stand up.”..Keith Richards https://rockcelebrities.net/the-only-david-bowie-song-that-keith-richards-could-remember/ Mick Jagger discovered Guy Van Peelart paintings where he showed Bowie. he got ahead of the Stones using one for his Diamond Dogs cover.. so you never showed Bowie anything lest he steal it from you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Peellaert Mick Ronson was responsible for a lot of Bowie's early sound, Ronson was considered as a replacement for Mick Taylor when he left the RS...Keith opted for his wana be Keith Ronnie Wood. I like Aladdin Sane...Panic in Detroit and Gene Genie.. |

Disapproval from Keith Richards means nothing to me. Sorry. |

However, Bowie was confused as to how to get famous so he cranked out one of the most powerful songs of all time in his early 20's. That's pretty impressive. Ronson helped Bowie come close to the Stones now and then but so much of Bowie is not awesome fuzz guitar riffs. Good day, Sir. (I like Panic in Detroit a lot) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uD1M6XAQELg" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
fake or not i've got multiple Bowie tunes on my phone and only one Stones (Can't you hear me knocking...pretty kickass song though)

So what would you call the persona of the Space Oddity? Back in the day Bowie and Space Oddity/Ziggy were the favs of the Homosexuals...they loved him.. I have always thought that early Bowie had a Dual quality to it...it was way over the line into schizophrenia |
[QUOTE=tabs;11918029]Richards is an authentic tell it like it is kind of guy..he doesn't mince words..
Didn't he once fall out of a tree? :D |

https://www.davidbowienews.com/2016/12/love-you-till-tuesday-short-film-1969/ My take is Bowie tried really hard to be a success in Rock and Roll and found it with his outrageous, androgenous characters. I think he broke ground for many, many other artists to follow in years to come. If he did suffer from schizophrenia, I think he was high functioning. There is history of that disorder in his family, I believe. What makes you think he was "way over the line" in his early career? |
On some of our cold mornings (we have plenty) when my 7 yr old wants to go to school
just half dressed I sing "Ground control to major Tom, take your protein pills and put your mittens on" She thinks I'm nuts, of course. |
He's an interesting character for sure. The video for the tune with Jagger is pretty cringeworthy. I think it's like if we had our worst moments in life memorialised in film.
Bowies good stuff has an atmosphere that is just catchy as heck and unique. Don't tunes like that usually come from a producer? Kinda like how Elton John had nothing to do with the sound on Benny & the Jets. If you gave a random song to people like Bowie or Elton to perform it would probably come out pretty lackluster. But if you gave the same to a group like the Stones it would probably be pretty fun. I guess that's the real difference between these guys and explains comments like Richards. |

My journey as a fan began in 1972 as a freshmen in college with Hunky Dory. Then every one afterwards - and even backwards with Space Oddity and The Man who sold the World.
My close handful of friends and I would drive down to the inlet - Bowie blasting - while we took bong hits before hitting the waves. Also saw Bowie in concert in Miami in the early 90's. Great performance! So many great songs and albums but if I had to pick a fav. - I think it would be Aladdin Sane. Not just because of the songs, which are fantastic, but because of the timing when it was released - 1973 - and so many great memories..... <iframe width="640" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Rf0fmqWS-kI" title="David Bowie - Panic In Detroit" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I remember reading his 1976 interview in Playboy. Looking it up, I see Cameron Crowe did the interview. All I remember was the part about him being impressed by Nicolas Roeg's determination to get him to play the lead in The Man Who Fell to Earth. I need to read it again.

Bowie, Elvis and I share something in common….unfortunately not singing talent. All born on Jan 8th. Both always have been in my top 5 performers, before I knew I knew their DOBs. Thanks for this thread.

I think I had all of Lou Reeds vinyl albums in the day. One of my favorites. The video shows how good of a connection they had. |

Pictures of You. It's in it's own class as to unique sound. Maybe a little U2 seasoning but way left of rock music. Surely Bowie influenced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8UR2TFUp8w&ab_channel=RHINO |

I was never a huge DB fan (not exposed to his music actually), but heard him on the radio and the ChangesOneBowie tape I had was played ..... a LOT ;). Then in '83 the Let's Dance release got plenty of airtime on my college campus and I HEARD that blues guitar :). That was my intro to SRV .... and I bought Texas Flood the day it came out a few months later....
So thank you David Bowie .... you were unique and special.... |

Poor, born 1985-ish, child was running a meeting at the Dept of Energy HQ when Bowie died. She made the mistake of asking "so who was this David-whatever" guy? The other ten of us in the room, far older of course, will never let her recover from that...

Bowie was big on fuel conservation...

Now that it's gone I appreciate it more than ever. People in the music industry mostly work very hard. It shows. I've done so much listening over all the years it's ironic that I seldom listen now. But a good song will always be a good song and is welcome to be played any time. I've become very selective. |
