There are giant squid, but I would expect one that big to be more flattened out of the water. I also wouldn't want to be standing that close to a real one. I've got to think that's some sort of movie animatronics thing.

I bought a cheap chinese version on Amazon. It doesn't work that well. No great surprise. The one in the video above appears to be a better design. The one that I got just has a round screw/rivet in the center, so no pointers, and there's a lot of slack, so the measurement isn't accurate.
