The Ray Coniff Orchestra - I just don't get it.

Do people really want to be lulled to sleep by vapid, vanilla music?

stevej37 02-06-2023 05:04 PM

I always preferred The Lawrence Welk Show.

cantdrv55 02-06-2023 05:25 PM

My parents used to listen to Ray Coniff along with the Lettermen and the Carpenters. I can’t remember any RC or Lettermen tunes but I know the lyrics to most of the Carpenters songs had covers.

Max Richter can be a real snoozer too.

You people wouldn’t be so stressed and the country would be much more peaceful if you would Just sit back and listen to it and have a couple martinis.

I grew up across the street from Ray Coniff. I remember he had an RV and a 289 Cobra.

For my 'sit back and listen mellow music', I trust the Ultra Lounge collections.

Funny you should mention. Just today I was thinking back to me and my Brothers and Cousins sitting in the back of my Grandmother's 1967 Plymouth Fury "VIP", copper metallic with black landau top.

She had an 8 Track player (rare and hip at that time) with Ray Conniff's Hawaiian cassette and we would sing at the top of our lungs!

This was one we always nailed but our "Freebird" was Little Grass Shack....

I don't have a problem with "mello" music, but nope, I don't think I'm signing up for that concert. If I want to sleep, I'll do it at home, thanks. Weird!

My mother played this album until it was grooveless, back in the day. It was a Greatest Hits compilation. Also had their song, "Goin' Out Of My Head" on it

Ray Coniff, Welk, Burl Ives, the big bands? Yeah, every time I hear these types it reminds me of my Mom and Dad. It is interesting how music can rocket you back to a very specific time and place.

Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller for me. Great music in that era, and no twerking.

This always made me smile. Of course I liked Abbott and Costello.
