Alberta Beer I mean Alberta Beef…
I supplement our cows’ feed with spent grain from a local microbrewery…
The cows love this ‘oatmeal’ treat and go through 4000+ lbs in a couple hours. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1675743398.jpg |
If it is true "you are what you eat", those are gonna be some yummy critters!
When we were touring distilleries in Scotland, the local farmers (who sold barley to the industry) bought the mash which had come out of the tuns. A nice closed loop. Best Les |
A bit off topic, but related somewhat.
Cows love lots of different stuff. One of the people I worked with had a strange job. She worked at a local candy factory. On different occasions, they had a batch of candy come out wrong from too much or not enough of one ingredient. She would find a local cattle farmer to pay a little for it, so it was not a total loss, and he fed it to cows and pigs and they loved it. One time they had a light bulb explode over a vat of hard candy. She knew she could not sell it as cattle or pigs feed as they would be injured by the glass. She ended up finding a bee keeper to take it, and the bees loved it, and ate it all except the glass. When the bees were done, he had a small bit of glass left. It was torture going to that factory when they were making chocolate covered peanuts. Dang, fresh from the vat warm chocolate covered fresh roasted peanuts were tasty. |
