Carlos is one of those guys you hear 5 notes and you know who it is.

That original lineup was a monster band.

I saw Santana before his Jingo album came out. Small auditorium in Oakland. No one had heard of him. Never had heard a sound like his before. I was an instant fan!

The Master! And yes - the original lineup was insane!

This is the best concert video I've ever seen of them.

Live: 8/18/1970 - Tanglewood - Lenox, MA

Enjoy!

Wow this was an all star performance with Michael Schrieve on drums, Greg Rollie on keys, and the original composer Peter Green with a cameo appearance on guitar.

Been a Santana fan since 1969 with their epic performance on the Woodstock album. I have seen them in a dozen different lineups over the years and always enjoy the show. Still love to cover their stuff when it fits the gig for the night. A lot of personal favorites from this band.

+1 to the original line-up. Played the crap out of the first and second albums while attending college.

Although I like some of his stuff, one of the worst concerts I ever attended was Santana at the Paramount in Portland in the early 70s. Not as bad as Iron Butterfly, but they set a very low bar indeed. While Carlos and his crew didn't get booed off the stage, it wasn't because the crowd didn't try.

July, 1969. San Diego State football field.
Santana was not known by most of us. We went to see the Dead play.
The two drummers and the Latin influence was different and fresh.
He announced that he had a LP being released soon. I bought it and still listen to the tunes.
On CD now. Wore out the album.

I'm in the "I like some of his stuff" camp. I love the stuff he is most known for, they are jams that are singular.

I did see them once live late 70s/early 80s and it was a great show. It was about the jams.
