Active shooter at Michigan State University

Shooter still on the loose.

One fatality and multiple injured, so far.....

Just saw that on TV. Banfield is covering it live.

masraum 02-13-2023 06:51 PM

That sucks!

JackDidley 02-13-2023 07:06 PM

Five taken to the hospital. Shooter drove away.

Not to diminish loss of life and injured others, but I thought this would be a bigger event than it is....especially given people are shot every day with practically zero national coverage.

Also factor in the enormous number of earthquake deaths in Turkey and also those in Ukraine, and just seems crazy to have this much coverage right now.

Maybe because it happened on a college campus.

My gut feeling is this will turn out to be a personal vendetta situation - in other words the shooter was disrespected.

Guess we'll find out at some point.....

OK new update of 3 confirmed deaths.....that elevates things a bit more, obviously.....

My SO is in lockdown on the MSU campus about a mile away from our home in Lansing. Scary.

Shooter is dead !!! Self inflicted.

It is February 14th and we ( the US ) have already had 67 " mass shootings " this year ! It is painfully obvious and has been for a long time that not everyone is a responsible gun owner . What we do or don't do as a nation to attempt to make the situation better will be interesting .

I am a responsible gun owner and am smart enough to know that as long as guns are available you will NEVER be able to stop ALL shootings . But how do we get better ? If we as a nation set a goal to reduce mass shootings by 50% is that achievable ?

In my opinion as a nation we can't keep sending our children to school to be slaughtered . It doesn't matter if it's first grade or college . The toll this takes on society is high . I am NOT suggesting in any way that this is a single government parties issue . This is a society issue when innocent lives are taken .

I really hope the answer isn't there's nothing we can do and live with it ( or die from it ) .

It's been the new normal for quite a while now. I don't see a way out of the situation. The breaking point is still very far into the future, perhaps beyond our lifetimes.

A simple start would be to prosecute all gun crimes and punish to the fullest extent of the laws currently on the books. New laws mean nothing. Secondarily, or equally, do something about the mental health crisis.

I feel bad for you guys and gals... Very sad.

Cairo94507 02-14-2023 05:59 AM

I feel sorry for the victims, families and friends. Having said that, I always pray these "mass shooters" do not survive arrest. Frankly, I do not care what their motive is- they are mentally ill and crazy. However, I wonder if your typical hunt/kill everything video game ever factor in to these events?

Very. I'm glad that she made it home OK.

In many ways, best outcome. The threat is gone. The circus and expense of a trial is unnecessary. No one, no LEO has to live with ending the life of the shooter.

The rest of the world has the same video games and they don't have any mass shooting.

My daughter is a nursing student at MSU (my alma mater, and my wife’s, too), and narrowly missed being at the Student Union when the shooter showed up. Her friend Brian was one of those killed. I cannot tell you how heart broken and devastated she is. What a senseless tragedy. Please have the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers. This one hit very close to home.
