I'm a sober man...anyone else?

Quit the sauce...when, maybe 30 years ago? Can't say it made my life a lot better, but can say my checkbook balance has improved. Also, I avoid bars...for some reason don't like being around buzzed people. Maybe it's knowing that I was once that stupid while thinking the booze made me more clever? Now I know I'm not the smartest guy in a room, and act accordingly.

I still love beer. But bars are something I never really understood. Almost every cop show has a local bar that is a hangout for the main character. I don’t ever want to drink so often I have a bar that I am a regular at.

🙋🏽

I quit in 1989, when I met the future Ms. Rocket.

I applaud you all who kicked it. Very impressive.

I've never had an issue with alcohol (I drink occasionally).

But I've seen what it can do. Years ago I dated a Chef and she had a serious drinking problem. Once she started she'd drink until she passed out. Not fun to say the least. I really cared about her but the drinking killed everything we had together.

I’ve never drank except for a sip or two of communion wine at 12yrs old at church.

My first car, a 914 got hit by a drunk, I saw how bad it messed people’s life up and I had to work in HS to get myself in a position to leave a family situation that wasn’t healthy for me, so I just never started drinking and then never thought I was missing out.

It is a bit weird to explain as I’m not an alcoholic, not religious, I just chose not to drink- some people have a hard time understanding.

I partied my brains out in my 20s. Not sure when but around 30 YO, I started drag racing, 45 miles to the track 6 or 8 hours racing and 45 miles home every Saturday. Not much time for drinking. Petty soon , no booze at all. About 25 years no booze at all. When I stopped working full time it was time for a cold beer, The last 15 years or so I have been enjoying 2 or 3 beers a day. Never more than 3. IT takes me an hour to drink one beer so I dont even get buzzed, Now 70 years old and doing the things I like . Still drag race on occasion so no beer those days. It is possible, drag racing saved my life. I know something bad was bound to happen with all the drinking I was doing.

I've really cut down my drinking. Haven't felt so good, ever. I was asked to go to a Superbowl party at a bar this year. I declined and one of my thoughts was that I'll be drinking on the 4th of July. Don't want to group my drinking days too close together. I'll probably have three maybe four beers on the 4th.

Respect to those who have sworn off, if that is what was important for you.

I only drink socially which is very rare these days. Never had a problem with it. Good friend was visiting last month and we hoisted a few cold Molson Goldens.

Then last week I made a Bloody Mary for myself.

It was pretty good! :)

I do enjoy Kahlua and eggnog during the holidays. For some reason this past year there was a serious shortage of eggnog so I went without. I know I can make my own but just didn't have the desire to do so.

Have seen the damage it can do unchecked.

But there is nothing, and i mean nothing, more satisfying than a pleasant beer or wine buzz on the porch in nice weather. And you can add a cigarette to that as well.

Long ago quit the smokes but don't much see the point in not enjoying two or three while enjoying the out of doors (so long as it doesn't become destructive). Such feeling transcends economic condition, race, IQ, geography, etc.

To clarify- My drink of choice is light twisted tea. I do purposely avoid the hard stuff (other than for cooking).

I don't drink all that much anymore, and it was Jim Beam green label and 7up back in my younger days, I called it "my amber solution". For the past oh, twenty five or so years it has been mostly light beer but for the past year, I just haven't wanted anything much to drink. It all started when my Dad passed away, I found that I would get very emotional if I had a few beers. My wife asked me why I had stopped drinking so much and I told her I was tired of crying, so yeah, I will have a beer or a taste of bourbon every now and then but that's about it.

A line I stole to use when asked why I quit. Feel free to steal it as well.

"I'm allergic to alcohol. I'd break out in handcuffs."

Christmas eve 1979 was the last time I was drunk. I never let my father in law mix drinks for me again.
Depending upon the weather, I might have a glass of wine or a beer once or twice a week. Sometimes nothing for weeks at a time. My son gave me a bottle of scotch one year for my birthday. I enjoyed it, but it took almost a year to finish.
I tend to be careful as I have seen too many who weren't.

Best
Les

I enjoy drinking, but always in moderation. Don't remember the last time I was drunk. (Pun sort of intended)
