Bulletproof V-8

Then do consider the Ford 4.6. Here's a thread on the Bullitt Mustang board with the high milers reporting in.

Don't they have intake leaking coolant issues....

Maybe that one was just mine. 🤣

Most of the posts on the first page of the thread above are quoting mileage less than 200k. Pffft. That's not even broken in yet. I thought this thread was about the Toyota 2UZ or something like that. SmileWavy

Heck, my Land Cruisier (1FZ inline 6) has 214k on it and has had zero issues. Ever. Still runs like new. Drove it back and forth to our race at Road Atlanta 2 weeks ago.

Not just you. The intake cross-over pipe burst in my '96 mustang at around 70k miles. At least I never had issues with the spark plug threads stripping.

4.6L modular is a terrible engine lol. topped out at what 320hp? in the late 2000s?

the ford engine you want if you want longevity is the 300ci straight 6.

I had a 4.6 in my 04 Lincoln Aviator. The engine never skipped a beat in 125K miles. My friend bought it from me and did another 100k. Nothing but oil changes, a belt and tune up.

It propelled that heavy chassis with no problem,

The small block Chevy engine in my El Camino went 300,000 miles and never had the heads off. I did replace the timing chain after 200,000 miles but only because I had the water pump off to replace that, and "while I was in there" replaced the fiber gear. It had very little wear and if II had known that I would not have bothered, but I had it apart and the replacement on hand so I replaced it.

I took apart that engine just to see what was worn.

I dropped it all off at the scales to be recycled. I replaced that engine with a factry NEW GM Crate engine with a 24 month or two year warranty, delivered to my driveway for $1,700 all in. I did the engine replacement mostly myself. I did have a buddy come help pull the old engine out and stab the new engine in place. The rest of it I did. I did borrow his engine hoist and engine stand.

Mercedes M113 and M113K are amazingly reliable and make a lot of low end torque as well as 300 to 600+ hp
