Looks like the Ferrari crashed and is beyond repair ?
https://www.motorsport.com/wec/news/wec-prologue-ferrari-crash-damage/10442808/ |
Pretty sure they found no structure damage, just electrical systems, and will be back for Weds practice sessions. No tire warmers allowed this year and the driver went off on Turn 1 right out of the pits.

Dallara also supply the Cadillacs. And of course they will say you need to change the chassis. $$$
|
Ferrari: we checked everything and find no damage. Can you double-check us on that?
Dallara: sure! although we can find no damage we highly recommend you swap in a new chassis just to make sure .... cha ching! :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1678838488.jpg |
The good news is Ferrari got the #51 chassis swapped in time for morning practice. The bad news is they nearly wrecked it again right in front of me. Missed the guardrail by about 6 inches

Amazing pics, thank you !

Right place, right time. And then he gathers it up and sets 2nd fastest time in FP1!

I think Villeneuve was in the Vanwall for all of FP1. Slight improvement but he's still running down at the lower end of the LMP2 cars. He was all over the curbs and misfiring.

Great photos, thanks for posting and that's one LM Hypercar car I'd love to work on
I'm supporting Ferrari in Hyper car class and Accura in LMDh class |

Toyota just seems to be able to go as fast as they need to. They dipped into the 1:46s in FP2. Tomorrow will be interesting for sure. IMSA and WEC practice back-to-back. So there will be 4 Porsches running. Can the MS Acura run fast with air in the tires? ;) Has BMW made any progress?

AS always. great pics curt. did the Ferrari lose under braking for the hairpin? or it that tower turn? cannot tell. thanks Frank
|
Thanks! That spin was at 4. He ran wide coming out of 3 and hit the curb on 4.
Looks like Porsche still has work to do. The expectation for Porsche is always that they should win right out of the box. Not that easy in real life. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1678967811.jpg |
Great work as usual Curt!
That is very, very surprising for Porsche. Were they too conservative with their design choices? Impressive for Ferrari to be so fast right out of the box. |
Hopefully the Ferrari WEC team does not get their ECU's from the F1 team ☹️ . I am confident Porsche/Penske will find the recipe for success . It may not be at this race but you never know if anyone is really showing their full pace. Hopefully the Porsche GT3's will be more competitive than at Daytona .
|
I see the 12 hours IMSA race will be on Peacock saturday ($4.99 for a month, use it to watch poker face too)
The WEC race will be on Motortrend+ on friday - $4.99/mo also, watch some wheeler dealer for the rest of the month and cancel. I admit to being a bit confused, the Porsche 963 was racing Daytona24 (IMSA?) but is now racing WEC only and not IMSA for Sebring on saturday? |
A little more on MSR and low tire pressures. Apparently, they were not the only ones. Start at around the 8min mark.

Porsche-Penske has a 2-car WEC team and a 2-car IMSA team. There are 4 963s at Sebring. Some of their drivers will be doing both events. CGR/Cadillac has a 1-car WEC team and a 1-car IMSA team. Action Express/Whelen has another Cadillac in IMSA. Porsche and Cadillac are the only manufacturers with cars in both series this year. FP3 is on YouTube: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8-d6iCogXKg" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Wayne Taylor and his drivers are not happy campers. I'll bet Meyer Shank gets the boot by Honda at the end of the season and WT-Andretti runs 2 cars next year. wayne-taylor-on-msr-scandal-were-not-all-the-same |
Also to add confusion (or maybe clear it up??), WEC is calling all of the LMH and LMDh cars 'Hypercars'. Even tho LMH = Le Mans Hypercar and LMDh = Le Mans Daytona Hybrid. IMSA calls everything GTP. So the 963 is a Hypercar in WEC and a GTP in IMSA even tho the cars are identical.
All LMDh cars are 2WD and have hybrid powertrains. LMH are not necessarily hybrids (Glickenhaus and Vanwall are not hybrids and are 2WD). The other LMH's are hybrids and have 4WD. Clearly :D |
Thank you, clear as mud ;-) Ironically I did not even see Porsche on the 12hr lineup, probably a Bing search. I am ready to watch both AND the grand prix, busy week end (fri-sat-sunday spread is appreciated), told my wife "no social stuff thank you"

WEC 1000 - not IMSA I realize, but wow, FErrari is in it !! So yeah, there's PEnske Porsche team in the Friday WEC race (slow) and a Penske Porsche team in IMSA's 12hrs of sebring saturday (also slow). Different crew.. Not confusing at all ;-) |
This is very common this time of year in Florida, a Cadillac forces a Porsche off the road...

That's ironic. Maybe he could send out his number two car to run into the other car that hurt his feelings, time after time, until his number one car has enough points to win. again |
Just experimenting last night with settings. There is very little track lighting at Sebring. Photos are a challenge. This is no flash, 1/400 and ISO 12,500  I remember the film days when I hated ISO 400 film because it was too grainy. Sometimes these newer cameras make it too easy.

Five laps in and 3rd place Ferrari GT loses it and hits the tire wall and ends up shiny side down 😩 . Heck of a way to start their WEC season .
|
Almost done... Toyota doing well, Cadillac behind, then Ferrari/porsche depending if Ferrari drivers keep being involved in accidents or not...
At least the 963 is reliable now - slow AF but reliable ;-) Peugeot has work to do - I live how the car looks but man, no wing and relying on a floor/diffuser at a track as bumpy as Sebring was never gonna end well ! |
Porsche needs to figure out their rear tire degradation . I think that may lead to more pace . Is it aero ? Is it setup ? To finish first you first need to finish . Compared to Daytona they have taken a step forward . Just need to keep working .
