Jacques Villeneuve basically fired from Vanwall, although officially just for Le Mans. A replacement driver already announced for Le Mans but I doubt he's coming back. Really poor performance. I was a fan in Indycar and F1 but sometimes it's best to just call it a day and move on.

Also, Alpine unveiling their Hypercar at Le Mans. Looks like it will compete only in WEC, not IMSA.

CurtEgerer 06-05-2023 05:01 AM

Le Mans FP2. Porsche looking very, very good. There were some last minute BoP changes that hurt Toyota (needed, I think, given their 3-year head start with Hypercars) and it shows here.

Today's qualifying results. Top 8 have a Hyperpole shootout tomorrow night for grid positions.

What's with the tail-less aero of the Peugeot 9x8?

They think they can make up the lack of a wing with a bigger diffuser only (and therefore less drag). So far it's not been too good, but hard to say if it's the overall concept or just the rest of the car. Sadly they're also not that reliable so I wouldn't put $ on them this year. I really like how it looked in battleship grey - not so much in LeMans artsy colors.. I'm flying out today - hope to be there parts of saturday sunday depending on transportation (it's packed and no parking left) and not too wet ;-) Will try to send pics.

Hyperpole qualifying on now at RadioLeMans.

RS Player

These track limits are going to be a problem all weekend! Apparently, they're enforcing very, very tight restrictions.

rfuerst911sc 06-09-2023 09:10 AM

After this year there will no longer be a factory Corvette racing team . They are going to support customer cars.

Race starts at 10AM, pre-race at 9. Race is on Motortrend TV. But it also looks like there's going to be a Live Stream on YouTube (which is going right now). Also on YouTube is "Radio Le Mans Studiovision". I think this is something new so not sure if they're literally just going to show the radio booth or if there will be some on-track action? But often, the Radio Le Mans guys are way more informative than the guys on the TV broadcast. I usually turn the audio off on the TV and listen to RL.

Wet track for this morning's practice. Ferrari-Ferrari-Cadillac. I think Cadillac is the dark horse for the win.

astrochex 06-10-2023 05:03 AM

1 hour to happy race car noises.

astrochex 06-10-2023 05:04 AM

Oh barf is that Lebron?

URY914 06-10-2023 05:06 AM

Tom Brady? GMAFB:rolleyes:

astrochex 06-10-2023 05:07 AM

And Tom Brady being likeable, damn him.

This grid walk is painful to watch.

It could be worse Paul, imagine Michael Waltrip in the role.

I don’t mind the imperfect, live elements.

I suppose you're right. Could be worst, could have Danica.

I like Danica. :D

matthewb0051 06-10-2023 05:59 AM

Did the woman doing the grid walk mistake some other dude for the FIA president?

This is painful and no announcers for nearly an hour.

Why is it American sport "stars" are infiltrating my European sporting events? I don't watch to see them, if I wanted that I'd watch the No Fun League or the Chinese basketball league.

The corvette guys wearing "cowboy hats" that fat chicks buy at Myrtle Beach at the airbrush tshirt shop

URY914 06-10-2023 06:03 AM

Caddy into the wall lap one.

astrochex 06-10-2023 06:11 AM

Garage 56 still going!

That was painful to watch . Leading Toyota has a braking regen issue . Rough first lap !

URY914 06-10-2023 06:43 AM

I like WEC rule that there is no passing until the S/F line after a yellow.

rfuerst911sc 06-10-2023 07:32 AM

Man that was a hard shunt !

CurtEgerer 06-10-2023 08:06 AM

Looks like that YouTube stream was a scam. Takes you to a link once the race actually started

For those without Motortrend, you can watch on one of several streams on this pirate channel. https://sportshub.stream/

rfuerst911sc 06-10-2023 09:25 AM

Very tricky weather conditions . I feel bad for drivers that were innocently taken out by others . I am VERY surprised by how competitive team Jota is . I know they are a top notch team but they just received their Porsche a few weeks ago .

Cadillac can't seem to catch a break . Not much coverage of the Camaro . Still a very long way to go .

javadog 06-10-2023 11:54 AM

The Eurosport feed on motor trend TV leaves a lot to be desired. Is there another stream on motor trend TV that has announcers?

CurtEgerer 06-10-2023 01:35 PM

Mute it and listen to Le Mans Radio RS1.

CurtEgerer 06-10-2023 01:47 PM

I'm already imagining 2024 - this field + 2-car teams from BMW, Alpine, Lamborghini, Isotta and at least 2 more customer 963 teams

CurtEgerer 06-10-2023 01:55 PM

#94 Peugeot very impressive. Best run they've ever had!

rfuerst911sc 06-10-2023 01:59 PM

So far a great race to watch .

CurtEgerer 06-10-2023 02:22 PM

John Doonan sucking up to his NASCAR overlords for 15 minutes  "It's a Cup engine with a little topend work". Umm, it's 750HP with a 1/4 ton of weight removed. And it's getting trounced by the 500HP GTE cars. Enough already. How about discussing the cars that are actually racing for position.

Hey, if they finish, they win. Wait until next year when Mustangs show for a legit run..might be fun.

URY914 06-10-2023 02:59 PM

There's enough yellow flags to make it a NASCAR race.

URY914 06-10-2023 03:23 PM

Who would have guessed the 2 Ferrari hypercars would be in the top 5 after 10 hours?

rfuerst911sc 06-11-2023 01:56 AM

A little over 4 hours to go . Will Ferrari pull off a win ? Will Toyota ? Cadillac looking strong . Porsche looks to need to find a little more pace .
Really enjoying the race in GT AM with the female Iron Dames currently leading . Overall I have really enjoyed watching this year .

CurtEgerer 06-11-2023 03:22 AM

It's been an excellent race no matter how it ends. Even if Toyota wins again, they have never had to fight this hard for a win. Corvette has had an incredible comeback and now lead - they were at least a lap down at one point and it seemed hopeless. Porsche 963 has ongoing reliability issues that need to be sorted through. Still a long ways to go ....

Would love to see the #3 Cadillac on the podium. They have been beat to a pulp throughout the entire race thru no fault of their own but are holding a solid 4th. Going to need 1, 2, or 3 to drop out to make it happen.

CurtEgerer 06-11-2023 03:38 AM

Robert Kubica running a strong 2nd in LMP2

The LMP2s are under-appreciated. Yes, it's a spec car built by Oreca with a Gibson (Nissan) normally-aspirated engine, no hybrid, basically analog. But they are very quick. In fact, they de-tuned them this year by taking away 120HP, otherwise they would've been too close to the Hypercars. One team engineer described them as mechanically similar to a late 90's F1 car.

With an hour to go I am impressed with CGR Cadillac . They have fought through issues and are poised for a podium finish . Both cars could podium if anything happens in front of them . Well done .

CurtEgerer 06-11-2023 05:33 AM

Disastrous race for Porsche. They may only have 1 out of the 4 963s running at the end and it's several laps down. :(
