success as a free/open source software guy
Someone out there found and used some software I wrote and posted under a GPL license.

Very cool!
Putting something useful, like information, a white paper, software, etc... always feels good, but then so often there's no feedback for you to know if anyone thought it was worthwhile. Clearly, for this guy to have responded, they must have thought your stuff was good.
