I have a Canon D570 laser for my office. Scan/print/copy. The only thing I don't like is no feed tray. Great printer otherwise. Wifi

I have an HP, and buy cartridges at Costco, but I also file my taxes online. I presume this isn't an option for you.

I look at it this way. If I ever do end up getting audited, I'd rather have someone else sitting on my side of the table, rather than saying "the software did it".

I'll have to take a look at Brother laser printers. I suppose I've got about a year now to figure it out.

Be sure to watch if they are B&W or Color.
Big diff in price.

TurboTax has add-ons for live service and I believe they will be the ones to be on "your side of the table" when there's an audit. Probably priced the same as a live person. Don't know. My taxes are simple because I don't own a business or rental property...

My fav printer is Creality3D it's a reliable and trustworthy brand that has earned a solid reputation. Moreover, it's not expensive.

Everyone is forgetting he wants to use it once or twice a year.

WOuld it be easier just to put the docs on a USB stick and take them down to the local print/pack/ship store?

We've had very good luck with the Brother printer MFC line (multi-function.) They of course print, but also copy/scan as well as send/receive Fax (when hooked up to a landline.) They take large capacity ink tanks that we've never had any issues with. I can get generic brand ink tanks - 3 color and 2 black cartridge set for about $10 and that will last us about 2 years with occasional printing and copying. We can even print to it over wifi with our iOS phones.

Been using Brother MFC lasers for the past 20+ years.

I don't need spam in this thread. Reported this morning, mods must be asleep.

Printing offsite is probably the sensible option, at $0.25 or so a sheet, it would take a long time even to get to a $100 printer.

Once I retired I had little need for a printer. I have been using Staples print service. Send them the file. Choose options. Pick it up when you are in the area. The last couple of times I only needed a couple of pages and they gave em to me for free.

avoid inkjet for infrequent use. Laser is a must.
My previous one lasted 8 years on the first toner.. Almost not worth buying new toners at the price they cost..

recently got me a new one, HP Neverstop MFP 1201N network printer, and scanner (handy for forms and paperwork) can print from my cellphone even..
the pc drivers are a bit dodgy as by default its all smart and connected to HP's cloud.. annoyingly, but there are alternative HP drivers that are dumb and work just fine

There are cheaper ones out there, but HP has never really dissapointed me in quality of the printer.. their only negative is ****ty drivers and drivers/toners that claim to be empty when they are not..But never had problem working around that either.

We have the cheapest xerox phaser laser printer. 10 years old? Takes a bigger black cartridge which lasts a long time. Holds full sheaf of paper.

Best thing about it is it’s a standalone network printer so no drivers to worry about. I think it was $250.

I’m normally the computer fix guy for friends and family but I have a hard rule that I don’t do printers unless it’s a standalone network printer. Everyone buys these awful fax/scanner things with crazy drivers and I confidently tell them to go to hell.

Bumping this since our HP Scanjet busted itself. The printhead is stuck and I’m presuming it will be cheaper to replace than get fixed. Its a combo printer/scanner unit that has lasted 2-3 years.

My wife prints often for home stuff and occasionally for work.

Paul,

I've been using an HP Deskjet 3052A for quite a few years with no issues.

Here's a used one listed on eBay for around $80 if you don't mind buying used:

eBay

Obviously there's a gazillion choices for this type of machine....probably better than the above.

Maybe go see what your local second hand thrift store(s) have (?)

But just passing it along.....good luck!
