In my hurry to grab pics before the rainstorm arrived, I did not look into the details of the pics, but now that you mention this, all I can say is :eek: No clue what happened there and will research further on the matter as that is not a "cheap to replace" part.... Your $20K offer is in line with what I thing its worth based on the original pics sent to me and the current status. I've repeated that it will easily take $5-$10K to make it operate as it did when the original pics were taken. |
To bring closure to this thread, I just closed on a 2013 Porsche Cayenne GTS.
My friend told me back in early May to "get the check ready" and when I went to see the truck, it was still in pieces and the mechanic would not commit to a delivery date. Spoke to my bud and told him what the real situation was (truck unfinished, no delivery date) and he felt bad for me and told me that if I find an opportunity for another vehicle, to grab it as there was no way of him asking me to wait any longer for him to be ready. That opportunity arose and I chose to get this instead of his truck. Who knows? Perhaps whenever it's ready I may decide to change the GTS for the G500? Doubt it... |
My cat buddy sometimes comes in from outdoors and rubs and rubs against me. Then I notice I have fleas.
Best of luck to him. Buying a pure expensive luxury item(plenty of rust..cough..flood-title washed) he can't afford and using a 3rd World chop shop will result in that. Perhaps you could help him with attorney and collecting what is left of his property. |

As I wrote earlier, I bought my 1996 Land Cruiser from one of my best friends...retired USMC LtCol who worked with me in uniform and then when he retired I brought him on, the position was competed and I was not on the board, as a GS. He retired for the second time and moved to Florida and decided to sell the LC. Even though he gave me a friends and family discount, I made sure he knew that the sale was as is, eyes wide open. His wife was surprised at how quickly the sale went down and the fact that I was, in her words, "fidgety" (and in a hurry) when I came and got the LC. I told her she had never seen me get a great deal on a car I have always wanted... Gotta go! |

A bit harsh.... There is no rust on the vehicle, it's not flood title, and he can afford pretty much anything and everything he wants (trust me on that one...). You can label Panama as 3rd World, but being American citizen myself, there are some 3rd World stuff back in the States too as it pertains to certain things... The shop is not a chop shop, though it looks like one, but you'd be amazed as to how many "pretty shiny fancy shops" don't have a clue as to what it takes to actually fix something. I could help him, but no need for an attorney or anything remotely similar. This vehicle is just something so low in his list of priorities that he just doesn't give a damn about it as it means absolutely nothing to him (that is how insignificant this is to him in the grand scheme of things). Oh, and among his other 5+ AMG Mercedes Benz vehicles that he has, he does have another newer G Wagon that he uses once in a while  |

Funny enough, my bud's wife is the biggest "pusher" to have the deal done! He has one too many toys. She was always in the background trying to push him on my behalf to get this done, but alas, he has bigger stuff to worry about. Hell, she learned about his latest vehicle (an AMG SUV) when she saw it parked in the garage! LOL! Super nice guy. Could have worked out for all parties involved if it was not for the mechanic that refused to dedicate 100% of his time to make this 100% perfect (as per my bud's instructions to him) and my friend being someone who doesn't have time to properly follow up on the repairs being done and the speed at which they are being done. |
Glad that all worked out. Your buddy needs to ignore his wife until the vehicle is finished. Then get rid of it and take her to dinner.
|
Those two (husband and wife) get along just fine.... She doesn't get in his way nor reprimands him for whatever he wants to get. It was his wife that finally convinced him to sell me the truck when we went out to dinner a while ago, but trust me, he doesn't need the sale of this truck ($$) to pay for anything....
On one side I'm happy that I'm getting a somewhat "known product' (no stories on the GTS), but on the other hand I do feel a bit uneasy having to tell him that I have in fact taken his word and found something else instead. I'm sure he'll be fine with my decision, but as a person who takes his words and commitments very seriously, it does leave me a tad sad. |
I need to drive a GTS.
I had Chocs 560SL when I bought the LC and another friend of mine, who owns a repair shop I have been doing business with since 1991, wanted the 560 for his wife. F&F deal plus trade for work on the LC. I love it when a plan comes together without a plan! Again, pics of the GTS or we make fun of your mother |
:D:D:D
Pics of the new-to-me 2013 GTS (45K miles, all service records since new at local dealer, always under extended warranty, every maintenance up to spec, no accidents, 2 owners (brothers!), recent ceramic coating on paint, new tires, brakes, fluids, you name it). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687988471.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687988471.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687988471.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687988471.JPG |

To my eye the google drive pics show rust in unusual places: -Top of the wheel wells and over the driveshaft. -Inside the gas filler neck and cap. -The muffler is rotted through from within. -To me that indicates something more than the usual. Insurance jobs are sometimes shipped away. Who knows. The interior panel paint and sunroof and leaks etc means that the Pepper Wagon was desperately calling for you and it's cries were finally heard. :D |
LOL John, guess it was meant to happen.
My whole journey (more like an ordeal....) started nearly a year ago to the day! I had verbally committed to getting a 2011 Cayenne Turbo, but local political unrest caused some highway shutdown and the seller decided to sell it to someone else. From then on, I saw at least another 5 Cayennes (Turbos and GTS, all 958 series) and two sellers flaked out on me (agreed to sell, but then later said, "nah, I've decided to keep it") and the other three were grossly misrepresented. Saw a Range Rover, loved it, but the seller wanted way too much money for it. After seeing the Range Rover and not being able to reach a mutual agreement on price, that is when all of the sudden the G Wagon showed up. I waited, waited, waited some more, then waited more, and then got tired of waiting. All of the sudden a Cayenne Turbo shows up for sale, saw it, loved it, but because it was equipped with ceramic brake discs, I decided to pass on it (I've made a separate post on PCCB disc wear). Called the owner of the Range Rover to see if he was willing to come down in price and the answer was "no, but I have this Cayenne in case you are interested". One week after seeing the Cayenne, the deal was closed. I'm currently on a business trip but back home on Friday and that day I'll take possession of the GTS. I really wanted a Turbo, but I also wanted something that was not a complete disaster nor asking a ridiculous amount of money. The GTS is pretty cool (there's a reason why many rave about the sound) and truth be told, don't think I'll miss the torque from the Turbo as most of the time (unfortunately) I'll be stuck in traffic. |
