For more than five millennia civilized man has made a distinction between humans and animals. I understand all the concerns notes above, and have been through such troubled waters with my alzheimer's mother.

That said, a society that legalizes euthanasia opens the door for rules for same. And how long will it before government begins to dictate the reduction or elimination for things like medicare, health insurance coverage etc for those who do not wish to be "put down"?
