We moved from our little trailer house next to the junk yard to a small house. There were no sidewalks. We brought the cat the last load & put him out front after a couple of days. He walked out into the front hard and laid down on his side & went to sleep. We watched to see if he would run away. The neighborhood had plenty of dogs and after a short time, one came sauntering down the road. It stopped by the corner of the yard after spying the cat and charged toward it full speed. When it got a short distance from the cat, the cat instantly sprang up into the air. The dog started back peddling and stopped right under the cat, which landed on the dog's back. It rode the dog down about three houses yowliing and clawing the dog on the back. It jumped off the dog & returned to the yard to sleep. About half an hour another dog came down the street & the exact same scenario was repeated. After that, we never saw another dog come into the yard.

Our cat is absolutely not allowed out at night, for this very reason.

I doubt that cat didn't have some good wounds from this.

Coyotes around here are much more muscular and move like absolute ninjas. Diabolical minds. Fat old cat like that wouldn't have had a chance.

That thing was a skinny little pup? His chomps were so timid!

We've also got some bobcats now that are taking their time working through the excess rabbit population. Compact and muscular - Bobcats are awesome - not food for our coyotes.

Years ago when I owned 18 acres in Los Angeles County I had a coyote problem, they were trying hard to kill my dogs. I called the City and said “can I kill them”? They said “call animal control” I called them and they said :we don’t regulate wildlife, call CA fish and game”. They said “what kind of rifle do you have”. I said a 22 LR and a 30-30 they said use the 30-30 we want you to kill not wound. They also suggested I call the Sheriff’s dept. to let them know of my intentions, called them and they said call us if you do kill one so they know what is going on. Never expected that in Los Angeles County.

A few weeks ago there was an article on the news about a coyote pack of 11 or 12 Yotes that attacked a sheep herd that was be guarded by a large male Great Pyrenees dog. By the time the dust settled, the Pyr had killed 8 and ran off the rest. The PYR had to have extensive stitching up but a few days later was back on the job! That was one fight I would have loved to see!
