Going South, Not Like That!!![emoji23]

Headed down to Defuniak Springs, Fl in the morning to help my sister move some furniture, including a piano, out of my late brother-in-law's house. They had been separated for years, never divorced, she had her own house and he lived at their old place which was located on some land that his parents own. Sis actually owns the house, doublewide mobile home, but her in-laws want to basically buy it and rent it out, place needs some work so it is in her best interest to let them have it. Anyhoo, there are lots of things left in the house, brother-in-law was a bit of a hoarder it seems, but he had lots of cool stuff as far as collectable things, I have lots of cars from his diecast collection. So anyway, it is going to be an interesting couple of days. I'm heading out at 5am, got Elvis all gassed up and ready to go. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...22cda8279b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...77c68161ed.jpg

Been thru there many times! Defuniak Springs was on our way to Seaside, FL when I lived in Huntsville. It was always a challenge to find the best route to get there...

When we lived in Atlanta, my parents had a place at Sandestin. We used to drive on Highway 20, and just past the Alabama border, go south and through several small towns, including Defuniak Springs.

Have a safe trip! Remember, lift with your knees not your back. In case you did not know, Elvis is not going to be of help with the piano unless it has a trailer hitch, or it's a small piano.;)

It is interesting what thoughts spring to mind...

Upon seeing the title of this thread, the Allman Brothers Band song "Southbound" sprung into my head, for the first time in many, many years.

Good driving music for your trip.

I take I-85 to Montgomery, get off onto East Blvd, then onto south 331,It's pretty much a straight shot.

Haha, thanks, had a good trip down, left at 5am and was at my sister's house 3 and a half hours later. Elvis does have a trailer hitch but we have a 15ft U-Haul truck. Got the piano loaded up onto a furniture dolly and it is on the truck, we will unload it tomorrow.

Too funny, I was surfing channels the yesterday and the movie "Goin' South" was on.

Then I saw this thread thinking it was about that.

Never mind, carry on.

Speaking of pianos, when my mom moved out of my parents house and into independent living, she had a big piano that we could not get rid of. We asked everyone and there were no takers. Nobody wants full size pianos, when you can buy small electronic keyboards.

It’s been around at least 64 years and I think she took piano lessons on it.

Now we’re paying for storage to store it, along with a few other things she couldn’t part with.

Yep, nobody wants an old antique piano. My sister's piano is a Kimball and used to be a player piano but a previous owner had removed the player mechanism, it was made in 1908. We have an antique piano also made by J&C Fischer and was made in 1913.
Got the piano moved today, had lots of help so it wasn't too bad. My sister's father-in-law helped me get the thing up onto a furniture dolly by using a ladder, a "come-a-long", and some straps. We used the "come-a-long" to lift one end up and set it down onto some blocks and then moved everything to the other end and lifted up in the same manner and was then able to slide the furniture dolly under the piano making it easy to roll onto the U-Haul truck. All in all it was a good productive couple of days. What better way to spend a couple of paid days off from work? I saw a sunrise on the way down yesterday, and a sunset on the drive home today. Life is good!!!
