Questions about setting up a RING camera
 

This will be at my Mom's house so I can monitor her safety.

Thinking maybe 2 inside cameras and maybe a doorbell one - or somewhere outside.

Question 1

I do not have or use a smart phone so.......can I have this setup to monitor on my PC desktop?


Question 2

If answer to above question is yes......how do I do it?


I have a caregiver who uses her smart phone so I know we can set it up on hers, but would rather have it show on mine not hers - or maybe even both - if possible.

I have an extensive Ring system I have built over several years.

Yes you can view cameras and all activity from a PC/web browser.

You may need the App on a phone to setup the devices however, I am not sure you can do that part from a PC.

My experience has been that Ring customer service is very good and helpful. Give them a call and ask about that.

But if the caregiver has a phone you can use that for setup, then after you can view on your PC from home.

You can also give the Caregiver access to the system as a User, and limit what they can see/do on the system.

I've heard good things about Ring, is why I specified them.

I wish I could install it somewhere discreetly so Mom doesn't know it's there. I don't want her to obsess over it.

Guess part of this is being creative on where the camera is located.

Baz can the caregiver take your mom on a shopping trip and maybe to get her hair done ? That might buy you time to install the cameras without your mom knowing it .

Or get something like a conceal-a-cam for it.

It just rubs me wrong to think about installing any camera in anyones home without their knowledge.

Not if she’s suffering from mild dementia or some other cognitive impairment but doesn’t want to move to assisted living.

YMMV and all that.

I have experience with that.

The individual was already suffering from paranoid delusions.

Discovering a hidden camera would have made things far far worse.

While at Mom's tonight I was looking around and thinking those HVAC vents would be an ideal place to conceal one. They are up high and have slots through which the camera lens could "see".

Not sure yet what or how this happens. Still contemplating.....

In principle you make an excellent point.

But I think you have to make exceptions when it comes to safety concerns of an elderly person. And in particular my 100 year old Mom. Still living in her own home. By herself....but with assistance coming in as needed.

Mom does have mild Dementia plus uses a walker to get around. She and I do not want her in assisted living. She has always maintained she wants her life to come to it's conclusion in her home. And I am going to do everything in my power to help make that happen.


Another good point. Which is why I am kicking the whole idea around right now. If I go the conceal route it has to be done without any chance that Mom figures it out.

That said - I know my Mom better than anyone and if she did discover it - it would not push her into some mental tailspin. She's still quite savvy about practical matters and understands that she is in very good hands with the decision making I perform in her behalf.

Putting cameras in Mom's house has been put to me going back a long ways and I have been reluctant to do so because I care about Mom's privacy. But we are now at that point where I really need to set emotions aside and do what is best for her, period.
