250,000 Miles!

Hit 250,000 miles on my 2007 328i today. What an amazing car it has been since 167K. It's better built than my '10 Cayenne, as trouble free as any 911 I have had and with M Sport option, very fun to drive but also practical. Fantastic stereo, much better than the Cayenne.

Just two weeks ago drove to Amelia Island and back in 2 days without a hiccup, comfortable, cruises at 100+ mph speeds with confidence (A052 tires help) forever, and is a proper lookback car.

Mostly analog, pretty much everything works. Want to put in a heated steering wheel this summer and have the driver seat redone. Only have superlatives for this car. If the motor ever goes I'll just have it rebuilt or get another one.

Nice looking car. Stop taking pics of your dash while driving, lol.

Here is a pic of the milage from my old 1984 533i, I had to rebuild the cylinder head at 550k km, to pass emission testing, all original bottom end. Ran that car very hard.

That's fantastic.

Although mine is an E46 325i, my reliability is similar - 245,000 miles, everything works, freakishly trouble free. I love that is is easy to work on and has a minimum of electronic nannies.

Looks great!

My 2005 E46 330 has 180k on the clock. If I make it to 250K, it’s going to be all track miles and going to take many years.

That's been my experience though I will say that parts are much cheaper than time so when 1 coil pack went bad I just replaced them all. Left front bearings... replaced both sides. Much cheaper timewise than letting parts you know will ultimately fail and great piece of mind.

Ha! I KNEW you were going to say something. I just went through the car wash and went to the market for some food and noticed the lighting and open space and broke out the iphone and took some pics.

Absolutely and happy to put some money into recovering the seats so the interior looks as good as the outside.

Were they stolen and currently being held for ransom or something?

Please post a few pics if you have some. Unfortunately I scrapped that E28 about 20 years ago, Toronto winter road salt did its work on the car. The engine still pulled strong, should have kept it for my current E28.

At 250k miles you should rebuild your alternator if you have not done it yet, at least new brushes.

Good advice on the alternator, I may just replace it preemptively soon.

Norm, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

It looks like a replacement voltage regulator is available for your alternator, likely a Hitachi ALR0638HU, Pelican has a Bosch 12-31-7-561-939M14 for about $50. On the E28 I do not need to remove the alternator to replace and is a 5 min job. The voltage reg and brushes are one assembly.
