Has Spring sprung ????

This is SoCal this morning. The ornamental pear tree thinks it's spring, but mother nature doesn't seem to.

Nope. Winter in SoCal starts about Feb 15 and runs to April regardless of what the calendrer says. Summer starts in September.

These were just brown bulbs at the start of the month.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680193285.JPG
We'll have flowers by Easter.

Fruit trees blossom in Winter AFIK. Seems the cherry blossoms are out in DC. Yet it snowed recently.

The only thing blooming here are the Hellabores and they've been blooming since early February.

Our yard is full of wild flowers, and has been for at least a month. We have Indian Paintbrush, Bluebonnets, Pink Evening Primrose, Prairie Nymph, Texas Dandelion, and a whole slew of others that are less showy than what I listed.

The Bradford pear, redbuds, and all the fruit trees have bloomed, and are leafing out.

Our average last freeze is April 1st. My wife has the guests bathroom shower full of plants she started from seeds. The kitchen dining room is full of plants she started from cuttings of last year's crop. The kitchen bar seating area is covered in plants. In the next week or so, she will be out there planting like mad.

She will "let" me add on 10 feet more to one flower bed very soon. More planing area, less grass to mow, to just one of the multiple flower beds that are taking over the yard.

Soon it will look like this again.

I used to mow the grass on all of those areas that are covered in flowering plants now. Much less the Koi pond area covered in plants, and the multiple other areas on the other side of the house.

You've always had a beautiful home, Glen.

GH85Carrera 03-30-2023 09:41 AM

Thanks.

It has taken 24 years to build the landscaping. It had some pitiful little garden center trees that were 6 feet tall when we moved in. Those are all gone now. Replacement trees and bushes are there now. I had to put in a sprinkler system myself, and start building flowerbeds for the boss lady. We are proud of the place. It is common to see people stop in front of the house and take photos of the plants. We get neighbors walking their dogs stop and chat and ask about the plants. My wife really enjoys the flower gardens, I am just the unpaid manual labor, and dirt digger.

I have about a 1/4 mile of edging along the sidewalks. And that much or more trimming along fences and flower beds.

Get a goat, they'll keep your trimming done. :D

Yep, good call on the redbud. There's a scrawny little one in the middle of a bunch of other trees on the edge of the field next door that bloomed a couple of weeks ago, and all of the trees are leafed out, even the pecans which are generally the last. This spring has been very different from the past 2.

The pink blooming bush on the right of our driveway is a Crepe Myrtle. We don't have any Redbuds, as they are not much to look at except for few weeks in spring when they bloom. My master gardener wife loves unusual plants. She has some tree in the back yard they is a grafted tree that is half Catalpa and some other tree she ordered from a nursery. It blooms all summer long. She has all sorts of plants I can't remember. She loves giving tours of the plants in the 12 or so different plant beds we have now.

Crocuses are up here and daffodil blooms are popping.

KFC911 03-31-2023 04:24 AM

Sprung about 6 weeks ago here .... had a brief relapse.... back for real!

MBAtarga 03-31-2023 08:45 AM

Taken from inside the front door just a few minutes ago.
I can always tell when the Masters tournament is being held since our Azaleas go in bloom just before.

Nope. We’ve got a couple more false alarms to go. The latest I’ve seen it snow here was 5/20.

Our first drenching rains happened today. The grass is greener and the tree buds are ready.

We had a very short spring. The Japanese Honeysuckle bloomed out nicely as well as azaleas, pear, and dogwoods. The crepe myrtles were starting to put out new growth and then we had a freeze that wilted everything. I've never had that happen before so I do hope the crepe myrtles recover. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...bed6e0b093.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4b86e8ef11.jpg

We seem to be ahead of normal in Charlotte, daffodils long gone, tulips gone already, azaleas out now, most of the trees have leafed out, real oaks (willow oaks are starting) and maples not yet.. Dogwood out full, and the wisteria (purple) is out in full bloom. Seems early. We had a warm and wet winter, first time in local recorded weather history Charlotte had no snow whatever.

HobieMarty 04-01-2023 07:32 PM

Thankfully the freeze didn't effect our Japanese Maple. I love this little tree. Looks like a big tree only small like someone shaped it like a bonsai. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d3232da968.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...86bfb12b16.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f91756f8e2.jpg
