I need a new jacket…

I’m looking for a spring / fall jacket. Something good for -5°C to +10°C… what are the cool kids wearing? It is leather?

I need something I can wear into a customer’s office and not look like a bum but also not overly formal - I have jackets for that.

What do you guys suggest?

This would be awesome but they don’t have my size…

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680557339.jpg

… and I hate Michael Jackson.

oldE 04-03-2023 01:34 PM

My experience has been that leather is the second coldest thing in human experience.

Maybe a nice Barbour jacket? When it gets worn, you can wear it to the barn.

Best
Les

Barbour makes a great jacket...

You can’t go wrong with a Members Only jacket! 😂

^^^^ I have one of those somewhere..... almost "like new" :)

Mom thought it was the IN thang and "cool" and gave it to me years ago for Christmas.

I'd gift it to unclebilly....

If I didn't like him :D

A930Rocket 04-03-2023 02:05 PM

I had one as well, back in the 80s. They were all the rage back then.

cstreit 04-03-2023 02:15 PM

What sort of customer? Office - shop - dog food plant?

herr_oberst 04-03-2023 02:15 PM

Be bold. Make a statement in your new jacket.

stevej37 04-03-2023 02:20 PM

How many zippers are there in the OP?.....24? :D

A jacket like that would look good in a diff color....but not red.

billybek 04-03-2023 02:21 PM

I have a few heavy flannel shakets that I like for camping and working around the house.
The best one I have is from LL Bean but I don't think the flannel is as thick as it once was.

North Face had one that was quite thick/durable but not sure if they are still making those.

Leather is your outer layer, wool sweater gives you the warmth

Nothing shields you from the wind like leather.

Dad had this lambskin jacket that was a beauty, super soft leather

I have his old leather top coat, looks like something a hit man would wear.

In a previous life I designed this fleece lined flannel trucker jacket for fall. It was quite smart, maybe something like it.

I have 6 from
Overland

Shearling lined will be very warm, even the regular lined jackets are pretty warm but more for the shoulder seasons than summer or winter

Pendleton used to have some very nice wool shearling coats but I don't see them anymore Filson too but same disappearing act

Then theres the good ole Levis shearling lined denim

There’s a huge huge difference between the 30 year old one I have and the new ones. And it’s not for the better.

If you want warm $100 and change gets you a Chinese knockoff of the army cold weather parka. Best value coat I bought in the last 20 years.

Remembering the Monty Python movies how about a hoodie from the " Knights who say Ni " collection 😋 .

LL Bean barn coat...

Carrhart has a decent duck, blanket lined jacket for less than $100. I have one of their jacket sweat shirts (actually, I don't know why they refer to it as a sweat shirt - it's a light, unlined jacket) I use mostly as a everyday jacket.

Spendy but the Overland bomber jackets are "less" and they are very classy.

They look like they should cost $500 (which they do).

I have three Carhartt $100 range zipper / hooded jackets so that's what I know.

craigster59 04-04-2023 10:05 AM

I like LL Bean stuff. I also have gotten great deals here:

Cold and windy today so I'm wearing a rubberized flannel lined rain jacket with a hood. No wind comes thru rubber. A slicker over wool would be very good. Some might even look OK in the office (as you arrive).

Google Milwaukee tools heated jacket. Love mine and have only used the heat once or twice.

If you’re asking “what the cool kids wear”, you are and never will be or look cool, and trying will make you look cringe.

This has been my favorite jacket this winter:

I’ve been browsing their website and may go try one on if I get time this week. They used to make a decent quality jacket. I think they may be all Chinesium now tho.

"Paul Brodie" (Made in Canada) They make some cool jackets.

Looking at his jacket, I was thinking "I could wear that". Then I realized I did, through most of high school and college. I wore an olive drab M-65, when it got colder I'd zip in the liner. Wished it was waterproof. Ruined it working on a gas leak on my old Volvo, the gas soaked the blacktop in the college parking lot, and when I crawled under it some of the pavement embedded in the jacket. It never did wash out, at least the gas did.

What a great movie that I’d completely forgotten about. Thanks for bringing it to the surface.

Stab it and steer!

It’s decent quality, really soft leather (probably dog)…

Since PB sold his name (bike manufacturer) I wonder if he has anything to do with this clothing company.

Baz 04-20-2023 11:18 AM

I don't visit the local donation centers/second hand stores/restores very often - but when I do I'm always amazed at how many quality clothing items they have for very little coin.

Just a thought for next time.....

stevej37 04-20-2023 11:36 AM

That's a nice looking jacket....I would def wear it.
I'm not a fan of black leather, but brown leather is classy.
