MGA pricing?
Looking to see my oddball '57MGA that has been extensively modified to look the part of a vintage race car albeit with some creature comforts like carpet and nice seats.
No idea how to price such a thing and I see little to compare it to on facebook/BAT etc. Any idea how to price such a beast? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680652282.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680652282.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1680652347.jpg |
No idea, but beautiful car!

Looks like a perfect candidate for Bring-a-Trailer.

Was certainly considering BAT but wanted to set a reasonable reserve and by extension wanted to get a handle on pricing from my know-it-all pelican brethren.
I may toss out a minimal number I’m ok with selling at and see if BAT agrees. This will be a first for me for sure Vin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If the car was unmodified/clean/nice, what would it be worth?

No idea but: https://www.classic.com/m/mg/a/1500/

GORGEOUS! That car is pure pornography.
I have a buddy with (possibly) the worlds nicest twin-cam. He would have an opinion. Message me if you want me to reach out to him. Also, any interest in trading for an 01 Boxster S? Damn. What a beaut! |
That classic.com website is awesome! I had no idea it existed but found it remarkably interesting and insightful.
Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Call Jay Leno's production company and offer to share the car. Might take a few months but all the right people will see it. Then advertise it in Hemmings.
Selling a car like that takes strategy unless you're just gonna dump it. In that case. put 20k on it and be done. |

Adorable.

Accepted by BAT, so I’m going to roll the dice and see what happens.
Now on to trying to take some decent photos. A photographer I am not, but copying some BAT examples works ok. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e29d18e6a9.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...22549a09b2.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a10927007d.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I suspect you’ll do very well on BAT. I’ve seen many examples of “more money than brains” there.

It's very interesting to see how little it sometimes takes to turn a nice car into a real head turner:
A teardrop headrest, some aluminum-colored Dunlop-looking wheels, (I can't tell if they're real Dunlops or not. I don't have the discerning eye) a cut down windshield, BRG paint with a camel interior...and Boom! Ready for the Mulsanne Straight! Nice looking car. GLWTA. edit. Didn't notice the hood louvers until just now. This is a very tasteful car. |
Here is hoping for the “more money than brains” crowd to make an appropriate showing! As much as I often mock that group, I’m guilty of cashing their check and never looking back.

The more money than brains crowd buys one thing on BaT: time. Which is priceless.

please do post a link when it's on BAT.

Time. Until they bring it to me and I point out the cracked engine case repaired with goop and many other non-disclosed issues. Happens quite regularly down at the store. However, $20K estimates do bring me a certain amount of time, deferred at a later date.
And wow, gorgeous car! GLWTA. |
Beautiful car. I hope they didn't pressure you into a no reserve auction. I've seen some cars that should have gotten more go cheap lately. I think a lot depends on the day and time the auction ends. That car is too nice to not have a decent reserve.
|
The folks at BAT were very fair about a reserve and gave me a pile of comps that they based it on.
This isn’t a high value car in stock form and I really don’t know what a modified version yields. I’m rolling the dice on pricing but figure I’ll make it up on exposure to a much broader audience than Craigslist and Facebook. I’ll post the link here when active. Fingers crossed and thanks for the good advice Vin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Great looking car and good luck on BaT.
My father started vintage racing in a BRG MGA Twin Cam back in the early 80's. Looked a lot like yours, but with black seats. Had an integrated turtle deck, passenger seat aluminum cover, Dunlop racing wheels, hood louvers, and a hot cam 2.0L motor. Pretty fast little car that I got a fair amount of seat time in after he moved on to something faster. The car was turned back into a street legal machine and sold through The Last Detail out of the northern suburbs of Chicago some years ago. Wonder where it is today. |
