Place to buy this molding or make it?

Anyone got a source for molding like this or know of the router bits or molding planes to make it?

I need about 17' (it's for door stop).

I think the radius of the middle of the two curves is ~1/2"

Don't know about your area, but there is a place in mine named Builder's Molding Supply. I had them make a fireplace mantel. They had all different kinds/styles of molding, base boards, etc. I bought my baseboards from H.D., but the molding supply place had it for a lot cheaper and tons more styles. If I had known, I would have checked with them. Maybe you can locate a place like that.

I think it cheaper to buy it. Find yourself a molding place and see if they can get something like it for you. Paint grade? Sometime you may find a large profile, rip it on the saw to get at what's needed.

17'? sounds like you're replacing stop all the way around for one door. Why not just buy door stop? Matching other door stop in the house? Doubt you'll even notice. Or if you really want an OG stop, pick up something close. Probably find something something close enough at Home Cheapo. Doesn't even have to be ½" thickness.

1/2" is pretty thick for a door stop.

I'd bring a scrap to a local lumber yard and see if they can match it.

!/2" was standard for door stop until builders cheaped out. Standard still on rabbeted doors.
Most molding supplies have an ogee stop in stock. Might not be a full 1 1/2" anymore. More like 1.25".

Yep, I thought about that and checked HD and Lowes and didn't see anything close.

Yep, not the right size, but could maybe make it work.
Houston is a big town (4th largest in the country). You'd think they'd have someplace that had that sort of stuff.

Yep, around one door. Yep, trying to match the other doors. Actually, there is one doorframe where we have this stop that we could reuse, except we'd have to be able to get this 100 year old molding off without breaking it which sounds like a tough job.

It's a 100 year old house that was built by the original owner out in the country.

Set up charges for custom molding used to be $150 + the lumber + the time. It penciled if you needed more than 100'. Barely. 200 feet or more and it became better.

Home centers are the worst place to buy real wood moldings. Case in point, I was gong to do some crown for a customer. One room maybe 50'. Bought right, of course. By that I mean 16' or 12's, whatever gave the best yield. HD (at the time) was $3.69 per foot for finger joint. The lumber yard was 85 cents. Which ain't cheap. Have no idea now.

Any molding house catering to the mcmansion builders has your stop.

You'd think that it would be available fairly easily, but, no, it's not available at Lowes or HD around here or on the website. The closest that exists at either of those is I think called a reverse ogee, but we need an ogee.

After I posted here, I realized that I was on the Texas Woodworker's Club facebook group and those folks might be able to give me some local options that I don't know about. They came up with Texas Wood Supply which has a local warehouse, and something that should be able to be cutdown.
