Banh mi sandwich - I’m addicted

I’d eat a sandwich twice a week if I wasn’t a diabetic. My MD says they’re ok in moderation which means eat half only, once a week. Man, that’s torture. A chicken banh mi, no jalapeños is the only sandwich I crave. Anyone else like Vietnamese sandwiches?

I would have to drive an hour just to find a Vietnamese restaurant.

It looks good though. (I googled it)

Bahn mi are tasty sammies! No argument here. Although I don't think I've ever had one with chicken.

Yep, there is a Pho restaurant 30 mins away (never been there). But to get to most restaurants other than Mexican, BBQ, or "regular American food" we have to drive an hour to get to Thai, Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, etc....

I love Vietnamese food. All types.

A few years ago, we went to a Vietnamese restaurant on the upper West Side in NYC. It was recommended by a friend who lives in the neighborhood.

We got there for an early lunch. I opened the door before I noticed a sign that said that they were closed for a private party. As I started to turn around to leave, the owner came up and stopped me. The party was for his daughter's wedding. He said that there must have been a good reason that we were there and told us to come in and sit down.

We had a great time and the food was fantastic.

My wife is Vietnamese (and my kids are half Vietnamese ) , so for me a Vietnamese sandwich is just a sandwich

If you go to the asian area in town they are like $4, my wife will buy a dozen of them for us to eat for a few days.

I love most Vietnamese food, some things can be lets say too authentic though

Love the bahn mi.

We used to go to our local place in Hawaii named Pho King. They had shirts that read: I (heart) Pho King. When pronounced correctly...

I pass thru FLL many times and usually get something to eat at El Cubano.

Their Cuban sandwiches are all ok...but they put way too much cheese on them. Maybe it's just that chain, but I'd rather have a good burger.

I like them too... I also noticed that the area where they are the best and cheapest in the city is completely devoid of any pigeons... Very odd ;-)

At a previous job, we used to go to a place where they were $2, and surprisingly great considering the price. That was almost 20 years ago. I'm sure they have gone up in that time.

Right, one of the Vietnamese places that I used to go had about 4-6 t-shirts that were similarly using the correct pronunciation of pho to be funny.

Finding a good cubano can be VERY difficult. There are certain foods that you'd think would be standard, but can vary a lot from place to place. I had a bunch of bad cubanos in Houston, even at Cuban restaurants. I finally had a great one in a tiny little place in downtown Houston that served breakfast and lunch during the week. I suspect it's closed or radically changed since covid. It wouldn't surprise me if they are either gone or no longer serve a cubano.

There is a place down in the hood in the South area of Sacramento that is pretty fantastic, for the Vietnamese food, not far from a place that fabricates Miata parts.
