Home AC Soft Start

Anyone using a Soft Start kit on their home central AC? You would be able to run your AC with a generator in case of a power failure and it is supposed to be easier on the motor and components since the in rush amperage is cut by 25-33%

I'm pondering installing one as part of my pre-retirement projects.

Cheers

My geothermal has a soft start on the compressor motor.
It failed after about 8 1/2 years, but the system has a 10 year warranty.

The kid who came to replace it looked at me like I was some sort of wizard when I told him as I met him at the front door "The soft start failed", but still proceeded to poke around on the unit for 10 or 15 minutes before coming to the same conclusion.

Yes.

I use Sure Start.

Hyper Engineering | Single Phase

There are several online companies selling them.

I have used them on both single stage and two-stage Air Conditioners.

Interesting.

Soft start can be added onto a system (retrofit)?
Do some systems come with it from the factory?
