laser level
 

Anyone bought or use one lately? I have a few really expensive ones and a bunch at about 3-500 dollars but they are all older with the red laser. The new ones seem to have green lasers which looks to be much easier to see. Any thoughts? I am itchy to spend a few bucks.

We use laser levels on every project. I own Bosch, Milwaukee and DeWalt but this Huepar 3D is really good for the money.

Bought a lower level Huepar level while rehabbing my guest house.. So after a few months the rechargeable batteries would not charge. Contacted the company thinking maybe they would replace the batteries. No… they sent me a brand new level! Now I have two.

I could have used one of these for my fence/retaining wall project. I borrow a transit.
The key I think is can you see the line during the daytime.

I have expensive ones too, but I pull out this cheap green 12-line from Amazon most of the time.

As a side benefit green is easier to see with my old eyes......and it's pretty bright.

Yeah, green is easier to see even with young eyes.

The whole idea is that green gives the highest (human) perceived light level for the same amount of power.

That looks good, but can it be seen on a hedge on a sunny day?

Maybe get a little Tim the Toolman on it (I rewired it, grunt, grunt, grunt), and you won't have to trim the hedges. Just set it up and let it burn through them in 5-10 mins.

Wow, you trust the cheapy self leveling? One reason is the green I hear that's just much easier to see. I was thinking about a Bosch or Dewalt. I like the Dewalt that uses their rechargeable batteries.

First thing I checked. 1st against another laser, then by rotating the laser on a counter against a wall 20'+ away.

I rarely pull out a level anymore.

I looked at the Bosch one for sale around here (Bunnings) and really like it. I don't know what I would use it for as I don't actually do anything, but I do like it.

On another forum it is said that green lasers eat batteries?

I bought a used transit for $150. I trust it completely. It's great for landscaping and construction. No batteries, easy to setup and use, I can leave it outside with a garbage bag over it, and if I'm creative I can use it without a helper. It's easily within 1/32" over a long distance.

Anything else, I use my German 48" level from Lee Valley.

What's nice about the laser levels (I don't have one) is that if you wanted to hang several photos on a wall or around a room all at the same level, you know that everything on that line would be. If you wanted to hang several photos diagonally down a staircase but in a row, you can do that (many/most have that capability). If you had a room stripped to the studs to and wanted all light switches or outlets at the same level all around the room, they would be. The ability to be consistent and uniform is nice.

I have Stabila 4' & 18" levels as well as an old 2' of some other brand that checks with the Stabilas.

I had screw piles installed at my farm last week for my new office…

They had this really cool gizmo, it is the yellow thing on the ground. Basically it lies on the ground and the sensor on the end of the cord is placed on top of each pile to determine the relative height. It appears to be accurate within 1/16”.

Before we sold our old house we had the foundation fixed after a dry year. They used something like that except that they had a bunch of sensors all going at once. Super cool!

Timely and useful info! I am re-grading my yard and building a fence shortly.

Recently picked up this cheapy for the hell of it. Works great, even out in the sun.

Tested it against my Bosch and its dead even with it. Tested it against a few different levels. Super accurate. If I get a year out if it , was worth the price.

One of my buddies has one of those Huepars. I've used it. Cant say I wasn't unhappy with it. Functioned very well.

A few months ago I got a laser lever from Lowes or HD, a "Toughbuilt" I think its the house brand..$50

I got the Heupar, plus it was on sale, so only $130. It'll display up to three 360º lines simultaneously (selectable), self leveling ±4º. If you're more than 4º out, it blinks to tell you. Or you can lock the lines (no self leveling) and then tilt them (tripod/stand dependent). It also came with a magnetic base that also mounts to a tripod or you can mount it directly to a 1/4"x20 tripod/bolt. It's got a battery life indicator with 4 bars. It came in a hard case. You can charge it with USB-C, you can remove the battery and charge it by itself via USB-C, and you're supposed to be able to use it while charging/plugged in. I didn't screw around much with trying the different power options.

I used it today. It does what it's supposed to do.
