Men's Haircuts

I normally go to Great Clips, Supercuts, or Smart Style for my monthly haircut. They are all similar and within a 2 mile radius. I go to the one with no line/waiting.

The last few years, they have all been at $17.50 (or within a few cents) for a cut + tip.

Now, they are all at $21.85+tip.
What happened?
Is that a normal price in other areas?

Probably around 5 years ago I was paying 10 for a buzz cut.

Now with all the hipster barbers and whatsoever can't find anything for under 20

Depends..I've gone to the same local barbershop for decades...Raule's. Remember the first time, I was 15, it was close to my after school job. Raule is gone now, but then he was just out of the USN, shop has recently opened. $1.25 then. It's a 4 chair walk in shop now, I usually wait for either Paul or Jordan (a she) to have an open chair. Think the sign says $15 now...I always give a 20 since they suffered from the Covid shutdown.

Warning: Those with Trump derangement syndrome should steer clear of Raule's...many of the conversations would not be to your liking.

The thing that bothers me about a +$20 price is that I don't think I've ever sat in the seat for more than 15 minutes for getting a cut.
If others are waiting, 10 minutes for a cut.

My barber is a true stylist with all the Hipsters. Does a great job, but too short. $30 + tip.
Salon opened up next door to my business and he wants $60 + tip. No way Jose.

Umm, I was paying fifty bucks for a haircut, then I decided I didn't really have fifty bucks worth of hair. So I started doing it myself a few years ago.

I use the dog's electric clippers for the back and (back half of the) sides, then scissor cut the rest. It's pretty easy really and you don't come home disappointed that the hairdresser has cut it too short or done it wrong.

My wife cuts my hair. She was not happy with how anyone else did it.

Ha! I remember my Dad buying a K-Tel comb with blades in it. It would pull hair out more than cut.

I did get a 'hot towel' at the end of the cut by the young gal.
I was telling her how good it felt and she answered "Everyone loves a hot towel"

I wanted to take it with me...it was only 30 degrees outside.

I remember them. They did a good "layered" cut LOL

My mom used to sit me down and use one of those on me

The other popular cut for the time around here was called the German army helmet cut. It was as if an army helmet had been put on the boy and any hair that stuck out from the helmet was cut off.

Oh if only I knew the guy I'd lend him my dog's clippers.

Maybe I'm just jealous.

I have been going to the same Korean lady barber since 1988, my first year in Patuxent River. There were breaks for deployments, etc., but she is it.

After working at the shop for years, she has owned the place since the late 1990's. I hired one of her daughter's as an Intern for two summers, the younger one went to the Air Force Academy and I pay $30 large after tip, cash money, every five to six weeks.

Less than 50 centavos a day to look like I didn't get a haircut.

She is a complete hammer, btw, but I've never noticed.

Being folically challenged on top, I have a really hard time paying full price for a hair cut. Most cut it too short too. So, I now cut my own. Gettin' pretty good at working behind my back.
