Sorry. Been there and have two more dogs that will force me to face this again. Every time I read one of these threads I relive my own experience with my own now gone best friends. It is truly a terrible feeling. Hang in there. Staying busy helps

All of us long time pet owners have gone down this road many times . It is always difficult and emotional as it should be . Sorry for your loss Byron . Know that you are not alone .

Byron, I hope your grief is soon replaced by all the wonderful memories.

Sorry to hear this. I'm a proud cad dad (dog dad too) but the cats hold a special place in my heart. 17 years is a great run. RIP Cayman and best to you.

17 is a good run. Remember the good times. He's around somewhere.

I will feel your loss too sooner or later. My 13yo'ish lost part of his ear and hip bone young. Bit in the neck with two surgeries to drain the abscess. Had a stroke or something which paralyzed one half for a long time. Latest is a punctured eardrum, falling over, combined with some sort of cognitive loss on and off. He recognizes a piece of bacon but doesn't know how to eat it. Still every time I still down on the porch he is right there next to me. Sometimes goes for walks around several blocks. Every morning he's sitting at the foot of the bed patiently with the dog like two statues. Licking old grumpy and trying to snuggle up until he growls and leaves. Playing on the computer he is at my feet waiting to get picked up and snuggled. I grab his scruff and slowly stretch his janky spine out and he purrs and smiles with his little pink tongue sticking out. Pick him up by the feet and scratch his belly and he just loves me more. Little pesky booger. Why do we love them so?

I'm sorry, Byron. I hope he's hanging out over the rainbow bridge with my cat Jack somewhere. Jack was also a big, black bruiser of a cat that had no trouble staring down big dogs and was a great companion for 18 years.

So very sorry, Byron.

I am sorry to hear of Cayman's passing Byron. They are such a part of our lives. When that inevitable day comes, just knowing that you gave him a great life, should give some comfort. You made a deal with him...and you both did as promised. Seventeen is a good long life. He knew he was loved.

RIP Cayman

My condolences Byron. It's a real beyotch when it's time to go for one of our furry buddies.

Sorry for your loss, Byron.
The only way I can look at it is to hope cats run Heaven. If that is the case, maybe, just maybe you and I can get in.
But I wouldn't count on it.

Best
Les

Byron, your post made me cry brother. Cayman was part of your family and was well-loved. Hugs to you, David

Very sorry to see this but it sounds like you gave an animal a great life which is a good deed repeated everyday for 17 years. 17 is quite old for a cat, believe me that he wanted to go if he was in pain or discomfort. Euthanizing a pet is the final act of kindness and selflessness because of course, you don’t want to do it.

Been there, it sucks. But you did right by the kitty. :(

^^^^^ This... and well stated.

I was watching a video today- on the making of double bass.
An interesting video series of it's own, with an added bonus of the cat, making an impromptu introduction. He is a constant in this thread. How the heck this builder gets anything done under this feline scrutiny is a mystery.
Mind you, one drop of blood could really stain a spruce top :D

So sorry to hear this, Byron. Losing a pet, our best buddy is absolutely horrible. Plenty of us on here have been through it too many times. We know how you feel. :(

Thank you being his best friend too!
So very sorry - your kindness towards furry friends never goes unnoticed here.

Cats are necessary psychopaths..

I had two feral cat that lived in my yard for years.. since I feed birds....and the cats try usually unsuccessfully to catch a bird..

One of the cats actually came into my place once when I left the door open.. looked around for about 20 minutes.. then went back outside

I haven't seen either cat for a few weeks and there food isn't touched.. so I fear the worst

So sorry for your loss Byron, it’s one of the hardest things to do for a four legged family member. I know this because we too have had to make that hardest of all decisions.

Typing this is bringing emotions to the surface of family lost in years past. I know nothing we say can make your heart feel any better or heal the hole you now have in your life. You have a big heart and we all support you in this time of sorrow. Please emember you are never alone when dealing with a loss of family that has been with you for so many years.

Your friends,
Trevor(Bugs), Jamie(Mrs. Bugs), Adam and Hamish.
