Got My Eyes Checked Today
 

After my 2 months of radiation for the cancer surgery that was on the right side of my face (2018), I found my vision had been affected and I had trouble focusing or target shooting so I looked at my glasses and they were OLD! So, I looked at various eyeglass places and Stanton Optical had the same day, free eye exam, $99 per pair of glasses, ETC, ETC.

Well the beautiful young lady saw my cataracts and referred me to an eye surgeon and he saw them too and feels they are from either "old age" or the radiation I got in the US Navy. Fortunately, if you are "referred" to the eye specialist Medicare will pay for the visit and any needed surgery! So far those little buggers haven't gotten bigger or worse and the docs think the cancer infusion meds may have an effect on my eyes as it is effecting other things.

After the radiation.......my beard and hair was all white, okay with me as I am getting old.....but in the last year or so all has turned RED again and no one can figure why?

My mom did cataract surgery about a year and half ago and it went very well. Lens replacement has become very routine. You'll be amazed by how much better you see when you're done.

I've been waiting 6 months for my cataract surgery, cataract caused from two laser surgeries.

THe procedure is dead simple now and the incision so small they don't even use stitches.

I know a bunch of folks that have had very successful cataract surgery. Pretty quick and easy these days. (Easy to say for someone that hasn't had it)

I think Medicare only pays for real basic cataract surgery. I got the multi-focal lenses for near, middle and far distance and now have 20/20 reading and distance. I did have to pay over and above Medicare. I had worn glasses since I was 17 or 18 and now no longer need them. It was well worth the expense (to me). And as stated above, quick and easy. Sounds like you’ve been through quite a lot John. Perhaps someone upstairs decided to turn the clock back for you and started with the hair.

Cataract surgery is one of the most common and safest surgeries out there- yet nothing is 100%
I had my right eye done 3 years ago- it was magical!!!!
Easy peasy!!

BTW, as a radiologist I have had radiation exposure much of my life.
Cataracts from radiation exposure tend to be "different" than routine cataracts. They tend to be more posterior.
I don't think it makes any difference- my eye surgeon didn't care the cause.
Get a GOOD surgeon and relax.

John, maybe you should patent that procedure. There should be a lot of others who want their hair color to return. During my last trip to the eye doctor (Kaiser), he commented I might be interested in getting my cataracts taken care of. At the time I felt they weren't that much of a problem. Since then, the condition seems to have accelerated, so I sent a message. He replied he'd have a tech contact me in a few weeks. If I get it done, I'm hoping I can get both done at the same time.

Nope..they do one at a time. Having been through it with both eyes, trust me, it's for the best. I have "fragile cornea", whatever that means. So, I had problems with pain after each procedure. The constant drops hurt like an SOB, but for some reason I wasn't prescribed any pain meds.

Don't let my hard time deter you...like posted earlier, it's pretty easy for most people. Just my luck to have a problem. Hey, at least I can see (sorta...I also have macular degenation & glaucoma) out of both eyes. Figure I'm lucky.

We like you, John Rogers. We would like you to meet with the specialist and also, to see an optometrist more regularly. ;) Men think they are expendable, but in fact we are irreplaceable. We think we are not worth the bother, and this is also untrue. We spend more time maintaining our cars than ourselves, often. Make your time here as good as it can be. For you, John.

I will need cataract surgery soon enough. Have been meaning to learn more about it. The lens and cornea are two different bits of optically clear living tissue. Think about THAT for a moment. Lasik surgery changes the shape of the cornea. Cataract surgery replaces the center portion of the lens, which is inside the eye, and which is attached to a circular bunch of muscles that do the focusing. The incision is VERY small, apparently. The new lens slips through it rolled like a scroll. At least....this is what I think I know so far.

Thought I needed new glasses but got diagnosed with 'Polar Cataracts' 4 weeks ago by my optometrist. Essentially, a tiny dot in the optical center of my eyes. I haven't had sharp focus in my vision for nearly 2 years. Surgery on first eye in 10 days (say what you will about healthcare in the US, but routine eye exam to surgery for a non-life-threatening issue in a little over a month? I can't complain :cool: ).
