Any shortwave radio guys on here? Never knew about Number Staions.
Interesting video on "Number Stations". Apparently they are used for "spy network" type of intelligence. Most evolved from the cold war era and a few are still in use. Have a big following by ham and shortwave geeks.

Seems to me AI will take them off the air. I'm thinking there's no code devised that AI couldn't crack in short order.

Fascinating but this is old tech. Today's spy would be communicating with silent digital encryption.
So why are they still broadcasting?

It seems that they could still be useful for having a means of sending messages that don't tie the receiver to the transmission. Phones, messages over the internet etc. All identify the receiver in some way and could potentially be traced to one or both off the parties. With the broadcast at least the message receiver is private.
