Every path is the right path. Everything could've been anything else, and it would have just as much meaning.

That's too bad. I've been w/o money many times but I don't remember selling to pay a debt except one time. I barrowed an honest to goodness 356 Carrera speedster with the cammer engine to take a friend on a joy ride. I was young, the car was not that special at the time, but I wrecked it. Nobody hurt but the car. I had a pristine '65 Chevy 1/2T and the wood bed had never seen anything but the previous owner's golf bag.

I had to sell that day on the spot and give the money to the Carrera owners, who were partners in the car and autocrossed it. They never turned the car into insurance, mine or theirs. I took full responsibility for the damage and the car lived for another day after repairs.

So for a while I was on a motorcycle until I could buy a junk VW. That probably was my introduction to air cooled cars as I didn't know a Carrera from jack siht. I sure didn't know about throttle lift oversteer. I had raced a Corvette previously and thought all cars understeered. I also thought I was a hot shoe.

Totally humbled.

It seems to me my destiny was 80% determined by the choices I was faced with and made between the age of 21 and 25.

Charles Aznavour..

Yesterday when I was young
The taste of life was sweet as rain upon my tongue
I teased at life as if it were a foolish game
The way the evening breeze may tease a candle flame
The thousand dreams I dreamed, the splendid things I planned
I always built, alas, on weak and shifting sand
I lived by night and shunned the naked light of day
And only now I see how the years ran away
]
Yesterday, when I was young
So many drinking songs were waiting to be sung
So many wayward pleasures lay in store for me
And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see
I ran so fast that time and youth at last ran out
I never stopped to think what life was all about
And every conversation I can now recall
Concerned itself with me, me and nothing else at all
[Verse 3]
Yesterday the moon was blue
And every crazy day brought something new to do
I used my magic age as if it were a wand
And never saw the waste and emptiness beyond
The game of love I played with arrogance and pride
And every flame I lit too quickly, quickly died
The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away
And only I am left on stage to end the play

There are so many songs in me that won't be sung
I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue
The time has come for me to pay for yesterday
When I was young

Of all the forks life has shown
My choice was the spoon
My luck was: life served me soup
