Need some help with my Mac tool box

As some may remember I picked up a vintage Mac tool box mb506 as the lock broken and the drawers wouldn't open. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1683060601.jpg

Well, finally got around to getting it open, now I need to know what parts I need and how it works. I reached out to Mac and they said that box discontinued in 97 and they had nothing on It.

It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but I think that piece with the spikes is along the back of the box and goes ^up and v down to lock the drawers closed. The spikes hooking on mating pieces on the backs of the drawers.
The tumbler probably had a rod that went to the back to engage the piece with the spikes.

Got a pic of the back side of a drawer?

Do I have this correct orientation wise?

Scott pretty well explained it. Most rolling chest locks work on the same principle. Now, to parts needed? A hint..few tool companies make their own boxes...so if you can find out who made Mac boxes when yours was made, you have a shot. Look for date stamping on the outside of the box.

Another thought I had was maybe do a search on the Garage Journal board. Tons of knowledge there.

The slides look the same as old Craftsman boxes, which might mean it was most likely made by Waterloo.

First thing I do is disable that lock thing. And those drawer guides suck. Very thick gooey grease.

Since my old USA made Craftsman combo boxes are already in an alarmed garage, I never bother to lock them. Not keyed the same, meaning I'd have to unlock 3 locks to grab a tool. To lube my "ball bearing griplatch" slides, I used a synthetic light oil...they roll smooth & easy now.

So yeah..depending on location & planned use, might be simpler for Byron to just eliminate the locking feature.

(edit) This the lube I used..worked well, but hate the applicator device..it quit working after I'd used 1/4 of the can...tossed it. Maybe I just bought a bad one?

Locks are gonna prevent Byron's cats from stealing his 10mm sockets .... thieves are gonna roll the whole tool box away ....

Wheel locks :D
