Bruise
 

OK, I’m old. Had the stent thing (as described in another thread) and now taking a baby aspirin and Brilinta to prevent any clotting. Now all I have to do is think I bumped something with my arm and I’ve got a big ugly bruise for a week or so. Naturally just about the time it clears up I get some more. My grand-father bruised easily, as does my dad as he aged and a few years ago it started with me.... always on my forearms, and I have no clue how they got there until they show up ;). Hasn't affected my ego tho' :D .... I'm 63 and take no meds, etc.

An overly obvious question but... Have you talked to your doctor about this?

as ive aged ive noticed my skins is much less durable, specifically on the back of my hands. tears like paper.

For me it's the skin under my finger nails that tears easily. :confused:

Bruises are caused (as you know) by bleeding and while I'm not aware of any topical that guarantees to help with the clearance of that blood I have heard that creams with bromelain (pineapple) and the Arnica flower may help.

I did ask the dermatologist and she said Arnicare (sounds like the Arnica flower you mention) but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Have to look into the bromelain.

The skin tears you guys will be getting should be reapproximated, narrow pieces of tape work well for this. Grab the loose skin with the tape, and use the tape tp manipulate the torn skin.

My grandmother, and my father had that problem later in life. My brother and I both have the same thing now that we are geezers. The top layer of skin is just very thin, and rips or bruises easily. My brother carries about 6 band-aids with him all the time. Just a slight bump and he tears the skin.

Yesterday I had to replace the front Bilstien shock inserts on my 911 as the old ones were leaking oil. Compressing the shock to get it out of the wheel well caused me to brush my arm against the fender edge. I had blood running down my arm but I could not let go until I got it out from under the fender to expand back to full height. It looked like I had been in a knife fight. Just a few mm of skin was flapped back. I washed off the blood, and but a band aid over the wound to stop the blood and finished the shock replacement with no more blood.

^^^^ That's me too Glen .... when I'm doing something, the slighest contact can cause a tear or a bruise to appear later ... two weeks ago it was cradling a "weed eater" under my arm carrying it with other stuff.... I now have become "thin skinned" ....

Same here. Working on the car or building a house, if I rip the skin, I use a field dressing.

It consists of whatever I can find that’s absorbent… paper towel, baby wipe, cloth, etc and wrap it with painters tape, blue tape, scotch tape, etc. Boom! Instant first aid kit.! 😂

A shop rag and duct tape should be in every geezer's first aid kit :). I also invested in a box of band-aids ....

My father had boxes of band aids everywhere, home, office, workshop etc. etc. I saved them all as I have the same issue; bruises, skin tears, etc. I'm 66 and it really came on about 3 years ago.

Funny thing is that my cousin, a year older than me, has zero issues, and it's my dad and his dad who are brothers. Genetics is interesting.

Hip replacement scar. yep, that's my hairy ass.... one week post surgery.
