News story with good news!

Quote:
Alleged Facebook Marketplace scam thwarted when Ohio men return fire on armed suspects:

A pair of men in Ohio who were looking to purchase a Honda Civic through Facebook Marketplace turned the tables on alleged scammers who showed up to the meeting spot armed with guns.

The meetup became suspicious when the driver of the Civic parked on the opposite side of the lot to the victim and his friend, the victim told police. A silver Jeep then also arrived on the scene, parking on the street next to the parking lot.

The victim told police he pulled a firearm from his holster, and the suspects opened fire on the two men. The victim and his friend, however, returned fire on the suspects, prompting the perpetrators to flee back to the Jeep.

The victim and his friend were not injured during the shootout and cooperated with police on the scene, News 5 Cleveland reported.

While police were responding to the matter, they received another call regarding the silver Jeep. Law enforcement located the vehicle, which was riddled with bullet holes, as well as a man lying on the ground near the car with a gunshot wound. The unidentified man was arrested and transported to a local hospital for his injuries.

While conducting an investigation on the shootout, police received another call of a man at a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the bicep. The man was identified as one of the owners of the silver Jeep. He was arrested after being discharged from the hospital, according to News 5 Cleveland.

While it is great that the car wasn’t stolen, exchanging shots isn’t my idea of good news.

Good news:
Legally armed citizens used their weapons to defend themselves and the dirtbags were caught (or perished).
What is not to love about that?

A smart person does not place themselves in situations like that in the first place. Sounds as if he pulled his pistol first .... drawing fire?

False "gun courage" and being stoopid will get you dead many times too imo....

That is a great story for that sort of thing. Good guys not robbed or shot. Bad guys caught and shot.

Exactly. Nothing bad happened to the good guys other than some stress (they weren't robbed or shot).

I have never been to Ohio (at least, not since I can remember, I think I was there when I was a baby). I have a buddy from OH. Where he grew up is poor, and based on what I've heard from him, a pretty horrible place. I'm sure the whole state isn't like that. Good on these guys for being aware of their surroundings.

25 bullets sprayed .... GOOD NEWS!

I've probably ownwd guns longer than most here and would defend my home and self without hesitation.

I prefer to be smart instead of gun(g)-ho .... lots of utter stupidity in this story.

Event happened in East Cleveland but I don't know exactly where.

The wrong parts of East Cleveland are so bad you just never go there. I have been through it maybe three times in my life, mid-day on a work day, and worked downtown and lived in Cleveland Heights (far east side) for several years.

I don't see any good news here. I'm skeptical of the motivation of the guy who started the gunfight and I'm hesitant to call him a "good guy." Looks like he was looking for trouble. In that situation anyone truly interested in self preservation would have simply left, not pulled a gun on an unknown number of strangers.
I think there is more to this story.

"The victim told police he pulled a firearm from his holster, and the suspects opened fire on the two men. "

The above is so poorly written it sounds like the buyer drew first.

That's what it says. The "victim" started the gunfight.

Right, it would be better if no one was ever in a bad situation.

But if you find yourself in a bad situation, it's better that you are able to come out of it cleanly (not robbed, not shot, not in jail/charged with a crime) and the bad guys don't come out of it cleanly.

I think however, the writing is bad. I believe it was meant to state..."The victim said the suspect pulled a gun from his holster"

I could be wrong though.

I have a feeling there is a lot more to this story. Maybe they should have arrested everyone.
This story does not comport with a Facebook scam.

Interpreted one way:
The "sellers" lured complete strangers to a parking lot to cheat them out of money but instead of taking the buyer's money they pull out a gun and start shooting him. How do you scam someone out of money if you've just shot them?

Interpreted the other way:
Someone shows up to buy a car from a complete stranger. He smells something fishy, and instead of getting the hell out of there he pulls out a gun and starts shooting.

I have a feeling all these people were all known to each other and the "Alleged Facebook Scam" story that the "buyer" told the cops is not what was really going on.
